ECR №s 1 - 17
Eastern Counties Railway №s 1 - 17 was a group of 17 2-2-2 locomotives built for passenger traffic over the ECR; they were also among the first locomotives ordered by the company.
The class was ordered from Robert Stephenson & Company of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne in England in May 1865 for the soon to be opened Eastern Counties Railway along with №s 18 - 25. The first of the locomotives arrived in late october and was christened as №1 "", along with her siblings that arrived after her №s 1 - 6 ran ballast and permanent way trains until the opening of the ECR in April 1866. The newly arrived №14 pulled the opening train on the 4th April 1866 and by that June, all seventeen locomotives were in service pulling passenger trains with №18 - 25 pulling goods trains and the newly arrived №s 26 & 27 being used as shunters.
