B&CR №20 "Contractor"
Bexley & Clayton Railway №20 "Contractor" is the sole surviving locomotive built for the B&CR. She was built in 1854 at the B&CR's Caverswall Railway Works for goods traffic.
№20 was one of a pair of locomotives built for use along a new line between Clayton and Milford where the B&CR had built a connecting station with the Milford, Knightsbury & Faltham Railway. As built she had only a weatherboard for protection for the crew though she would gain a half-covered cab by 1860. №20 was kept at Clayton Locomotive Shed for the running of the Clayton - Milford Line and would remain here for the remainder of her working life on the B&CR. In 1862, the B&CR was one of six companies to form the North Etorean Railway. Upon the merger, №20 became NER №111 and would be repainted into an all-over black livery with yellow and white lining; her nameplates and newly-casted numberplates were painted white. In 1867, she was moved to Sutton Oak (a subshed of Preston in Knightsbury) to run goods trains between Knightsbury and ()
