"Empire" Class 0-6-0T
The Thomas Bates & Co. “Empire” locomotives were a class of 10 0-6-0t sourced by the Railway Operating Division in 1913. Most saw service in Mainland Europe before being sold into industry after hostilities ended. After the war, six examples went directly into industrial service, two to the Athenais Docks Railway, one to the Claybourne Military Railway and one to Colonel Crawfords's Sittley Valley Light Railway. A number survived in industrial service into the late 1970s, with one being in service with the ENR. One has been preserved.
