Ascension

Overview

Ascension is a drow city in the bottom of a loch in the Cairngorm highlands.

It is a 3-tiered city surrounded by a bubble of air. the tiers are separated by height difference.

The lower tier is the common area. it is accessible for all races. the middle section is for drow only and outsiders can only visit it with special permission.

The upper tier is for drow females only. it is the residence of the high priestesses that run the city and their respective entourages. it is the most beautiful part of the city and is filled with various monuments, gardens, mansions and palaces.

it is topped by the temple of Thellara.

The city can be approached through means of water breathing. the water is extremely cold.

However there a secret 'spider circles' scattered along the coast of the loch.

Each circle is a magical gathering of water spiders. upon fulfilling the magical requirements the spiders will coat an adventurer submerged it the water with a thin

layer of bubbles, allowing them to breath in the waters of the lake and walk on its ground.

The temple of Thellara

The temple dominates the entire city and is visible almost from everywhere within it. it is situated at the mouth of an enormous cavern.

On the roof of the cavern perpetually sits a gargantuan spider in an upside-down position (clinging from the ceiling).

The spider is the source of the air bubble surrounding the city, and every once in a while, he makes excursions for maintenance.

The temple grounds are restricted to those who have been invited by the Godess in person, and no such invitations seemed to have occurred for longer than anyone can remember.
