Patient shows signs of severe shell shock from his time in the Pacific. He describes actions of being in villages in Java, wherein he fired his weapon on a number of people. Patient states he is unsure which were the real enemy and which ones weren't, but claims to be haunted at night by what is described to be the shadows of the slain. Patient states the shadows are numerous, ranging from children to elderly. Though the patient claims they stand motionless, he is afraid. He fears for his safety at night, believing the shadows might do him harm. Patient has thus stayed awake for three days now, sleeping only during periods of extreme exhaustion.
