Surrender of Naples

Surrender of Generale di Brigata Edoardo Fazio

February 18th, 1947

To my men, I offer my dearest condolences. I have let you down. As we watch the full might of the Germans and Americans pour across the Mediterranean, we can only accept our fates. God has looked upon us, but has not seen fit to grant us victory. Il Duce will receive my decision. This has not been taken lightly, and has only been made in order to save as many of your lives as I can. May your days bring you greater joy than these years. It is my wish that we return to our families, head held high that we have served to the end, and have only lost due to overwhelming odds.
