Excerpt of the Surrender of Emperor Hirohito
I, Emperor Hirohito of Japan, formally order the prime minister and the cabinet to negotiate with the American Kingdom. The blood of innocents have too long been spilled, and the fighting will has been extinguished. The enemy has deployed their men on the Japanese homeland, something that would have shamed my Imperial ancestors. We must accept the terms of the Joint Declaration. The progress of the Empire of Japan must not fall behind the rest of the world. Our honor can not be further tarnished by rash actions that disrupt this peace. We must come together as one family, and endure the hardships that are to come.
