Reconquest of Egypt

The Reconquest of Egypt was a campaign by Great Britain under Oswald Mosley in order to regain lost territory.

The Conflict

Prelude

The treaty that ended the Great War speculated that Great Britain was forbidden from recapturing lost territory, and was made to reduce their military size. This included losing its control over Egypt. With Egyptian independence, they took control over the coveted Suez Canal. British politicians desired the canal as a remnant of its empire, and wished to see it returned. With the dissolution of the Anglo-Irish Empire, Great Britain was more diminished than ever, and had prospects to regain lost territory. Under Prime minister Oswald Mosley, Great Britain wanted to renegotiate terms. Though they were not granted the right to re-annex Egypt, Great Britain created the Commonwealth of Nations in 1938, and used it as a reformed version of the British Empire. Using this pretense, Britain invaded Egypt.

Outcome

The Egyptian government was overthrown in favor of one that would be friendly towards British intervention. Though King Farouk I was allowed to retain his throne, his ministers were handpicked by the British government. Great Britain gained special privileges in regards to the Suez Canal. Meanwhile, the Egyptian Foriegn Minister signed Egypt's incorporation into the Commonwealth of Nations.

Aftermath

Great Britain, acting through the Commonwealth, entered into military cooperation with Italy and the Latin Bloc, as well as renewing the Anglo-Japanese Treaty with Japan in order to secure protections in Australia and Malaysia.

Alternative reality history is such a fascinating thing to me. I don't think people realize how strong an understanding of real life history it requires to make something like this engaging. Its obvious you've done your research. This is short but very compelling. Great job
