Plea from a Mother
A letter from Dorris Brown
August 31, 1949
I am writing to you as a desperate mother and widow. Two years past, I lost a husband to the homefront. Now, there is not enough food to feed my children. I myself have not eaten in three days. Even so, I have had to buty my young daughter to starvation and disease. Please, Mr. Prime Minister, do not force me to bury my only surviving child. I understand times are dire with the German blockade, but I implore you, the spirit of the people is wavering. We cannot continue on like this.
