Journal of Gen André Maçon
With the Bretons soon to be out of the war, I had hoped we would gain some breathing room. We focused all efforts on the Italian front, hoping for a victory. However, many parts have turned into warfare more akin to the Great War. Entrenched men forced to endure barrages of Italian artillery, keeping morale low. Many of the forces have been awake for days, and the sound is deafening not only to the ears, but to the souls as well. The Chairman has shifted command of the situation to me, and needs a force to push through in time for the forced election the Americans and Germans are demanding. The only good news is many of the Italian battalions have seen desertion as the Italian war effort deteriorates.
