The Mourning: Normal
In a campaign that doesn't focus around the Mourning specifically the Mourning should be shown as more of a basic watered down version than the specialized version. But, it still needs to keep its flair so that when players do end up playing a Mourning specific game that they still know what is happening with it and that information isn't just getting changed up on them. Here are some changes that make the Mourning still the Mourning, but dilute its specialness a bit.
The mist wall should teleport the party around a bit, but the fact that water forms on the players as they walk through can be ignored if wanted. It should still have the eeriness of hands trying to grab at the players, but it shouldn't slow them down too much. Magic can still go wild, but in the watered down version it wouldn't happen as often; more like a 5% chance. Any monsters they face should still remanence the theme of the campaign and it should stay on track with theirs themes. They should only be introduced to important places for their mission. They stay should not last too long and they shouldn't have to deal with the Dal'quor as much if at all.
The Mourning is a very infamous event & place that occurred in Khovaire. This apocalyptic place is a place taken out of people's nightmares. While most people know of the Mourning, not many, if any, have seen the wasteland that it has become. This is because there is a mist/cloud/smog kinda barrier around it. Many people have entered the smog and very few have ever exited. Also any means to contact anyone inside the barrier from the outside has failed be that electrical or magical means. Sometimes though, garbled and messed up messages can flow from the inside out.
The few people who have exited the mourning have described it as a wasteland with barely any dead grass. Most plants have been stripped away from the barren ground and most that are left are often in a very condensed together. Weird demented creatures have been reported to roam these lands and they are speculated to be the reason why most don't come out alive.
