Tulip Kittens

Creatures of the Feywild, tulip kittens are tiny felines who spend their kittenhood playing and sleeping nestled in tulip blossoms.

A story about some famous tulip kittens, as told by the bard Olias of Sunhillow:

I want you to know this is very much the abridged version, being as it is so late. But if you like it, I will tell you more of it another time, I promise!

  Once upon a time, in the furthest furthest distant corner of Fairyland, there lived a whole clowder of tulip kittens. (A clowder is one name for a group of cats or kittens, in case you didn't know.) They would tumble out of their blossoms every morning and romp and play, chasing and pouncing and all the truly adorable things kittens do. And this they did for what we would see as years -- because tulip kittens, being creatures of Fairyland, don't ever have to grow up -- unless they want to!   So it was that quite a long time, until one orange tulip kitten named Koorpitsah found himself a bit bored, and convinced some friends to step out of their meadow and see the world. And off they went. And they had many interesting and exciting adventures along the way. But to their surprise, they found that many of their adventures somehow involved helping people. They had to find a way to save one of their moss kitten cousins who had gotten stuck way too high in a tree. They had to teach a lesson to some goblin cubs who were being mean -- a lesson that the goblin cubs learned, and became better for it, I should add. They found an eladrin's lost pocketknife when no one else could. They even served as mounts for a regiment of sprites who needed something special for a parade!   So it was, until one day, they encountered a mighty but kind archfey, Gran Evergrin. They confided that they loved having adventures, and helping people, but they also were getting a little bored. "There's only so much we can see in a day on our tiny feet, Gran, what can we do?"   And wise old Gran Evergrin said, "Why, silly kittens, you can grow up!" For, being such busy kittens, they had completely forgotten about growing up.   So that's what they did, grew up, becoming fey cats, who can answer the summons from those who need a familiar or companion here on the Material Plane. Tsilaba, your mama's Artemis might be a friend, or even a descendant, of the brave Koorpitsah. For so the fey cats have done, and do, from that day to this.
