Rengaku

Onmyoji who follow the Rengaku path are masters of alchemy, blending mystical arts with the science of transformation and concoction. These Onmyoji craft powerful elixirs, transmute elements, and weave alchemical magic into their spells and shikigami. Whether through explosive potions, transmuted wards, or healing tonics, Rengaku practitioners can alter the flow of battle with their resourcefulness and creativity, making them adaptable and unpredictable forces on the battlefield.

Alchemical Preparation

At 3rd level, you gain the ability to prepare mystical concoctions that enhance your versatility in combat and support.   You learn to create three alchemical mixtures during a short or long rest, selecting from the list below. These mixtures last until your next rest or until used. You may create additional mixtures as you gain levels, as shown below:

Healing Tonic: A creature that drinks this tonic regains hit points equal to 1d8 + your Wisdom modifier.

Explosive Flask: As an action, you or an ally can throw this flask up to 30 feet, causing it to explode in a 10-foot-radius sphere. Creatures within the radius must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier), taking 2d6 fire damage on a failed save or half as much on a successful one.

Transmutation Draught: When consumed, this draught grants a creature resistance to one damage type of your choice (acid, cold, fire, lightning, or poison) for 1 hour.

  You can create a number of mixtures equal to your proficiency bonus per rest.  

Mystic Catalyst

At 6th level, your alchemical mixtures and potions gain increased potency through spiritual infusion.   When you create an alchemical mixture, you can enhance it with a Mystic Catalyst to increase its effects. You may choose one of the following enhancements:

Catalyst Burst: Increase the radius and damage of any explosive mixture by 10 feet and an additional 1d6 damage.

Potent Healing: Healing tonics restore an additional 2d8 hit points.

Resilient Transmutation: Transmutation draughts grant both resistance to one damage type and immunity to poison for the duration.

  You can enhance mixtures with Mystic Catalyst a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier per long rest.

Alchemical Transmutation

At 11th level, you gain the power to transmute materials and substances through alchemical rites.   As an action, you can touch a nonmagical object weighing up to 50 pounds and transmute it into a different material (e.g., metal to wood, stone to metal). The transmutation lasts for 1 hour or until you use this ability again.   Additionally, you can create a temporary barrier using your alchemical knowledge. By spending 1 minute, you create a 10- foot-radius ward that grants creatures within half cover and resistance to nonmagical damage for 10 minutes.  

Philosopher's Concoction

At 17th level, you unlock the secret to creating a legendary alchemical mixture with unparalleled effects.   During a long rest, you can create one Philosopher’s Concoction. Choose one of the following effects:

Elixir of True Life: When consumed, this elixir grants the drinker regeneration, regaining 10 hit points at the start of each turn for 1 minute. If the creature is reduced to 0 hit points during this time, they are revived at 1 hit point once.

Transcendent Transformation: The drinker gains resistance to all damage and a +2 bonus to all saving throws for 1 hour.

Essence of Destruction: When thrown, this mixture creates a 40-foot-radius explosion that deals 12d10 force damage (Dexterity save for half) and leaves a lingering field of alchemical energy that deals 5d10 damage to any creature that enters it for the next minute.

  Once you create a Philosopher’s Concoction, you cannot do so again until you finish a long rest.
