Vedalken

Human beings have looked to the stars since the beginning of time. We saw our first steps into the skies beyond the atmosphere through shuttles in the 1980s. The first brave and few, as some of the vessels did not succeed in their maiden flights. By the 1990s structures were built in anticipation of residents willing to leave the earth behind and start the long-term massive experiment of human life in another place in space. And in the year 2003 our first residents arrived to begin their new life.   They anticipated struggle in adjustments to the change in gravity and unpredictable ways in which livestock and produce would become sustainable. They anticipated the psychological effects of the transition with a small population in a place so unfamiliar. They did not anticipate the extent to which the changes would go. While war raged down on earth, the moon colony expanded naturally on its own, bereft of contact and aid while the countries of earth fought amongst themselves. Humans did as they do, survive and adapt, reproduce.   The first generation born to the moon already saw the changes. Skin tinted blue, a distinct decline in body hair. And as they grew up there was a noticable shift in their cognition towards more logical thinking. It was speculated that the augmentation and genetic enhancements that those that went to populate the moon had undergone had something to do with it, combined with the new environment that no human had ever been born in. By the 3rd generation the change was absolute.   The Vedalken determined their own name as they developed their own language. Isolated until after The Deep Freeze they had been given plenty of time to become their own kind of people. As the first exchanges took place the shock from the population of earth was immense to see the children of those sent before now with blue skin and no hair, beings of almost entirely rational thought. The initial shock wore off into long standing admiration.   Most Vedalken choose to live together in tighter communities they are comfortable within due to their logical nature. They are far more populace on the moon still, outnumbering any other type of people on the rock, but they can be found on earth usually occupying positions as educators or in fields of technological development. They are also prized as Outriders in Keltrex for their rational nature giving them a foot up in ventures that require short endeavors into the Void.
