Talis Restoration
The Talis Restoration is the series of events in which Amena Talis claimed the throne of Kelidonia from the entity known as the 'Fae King', who had taken the throne from King Edric III, and the civil war that followed as Amena's claim of lineage from Edric III could not be initially proven.
Those who rose standards in the civil war were Amena Talis, Marcus Fairfax, Hubert de Wydra, and Randolph Skargyll. Fairfax and de Wydra rescinded their claims after being defeated, and so Talis and Skargyll remained. The war came to an end when they came to agreement where Amena would marry Randolph's son, Lanson. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- To understand better the Talis Restoration, one should know of the fall of the Talis Royalty, and by extension, some knowledge of the rise and rule of the first Talis Royalty. Talis is an old name in Kelidonia; not always kings and queens, but there have been Talis’s present for much of Kelidon history. Talis nobles were crucial figures in the first Elvish war, the western side of Kelidonia being affected, which gained them notoriety. The royal line passed into the Talis family through a marriage to an estranged younger son who opted to take his wife’s name over keeping his family name, even when he was offered, and ultimately took the throne, with gentle persuasion from his wife. And so the reign of the Talis Royality began. As rulers, Talis monarchs generally served the kingdom well. They popularised the use of a council to help advise on all matters. The last of the previous Talis line was King Edric III, by all accounts a decent man, if a little simple at times, but he paid heed to his counsel and advisors. The exact details surrounding the instigating incident are unknown, but the appearance of the so-called Fae King at the Royal castle at Talisborough brought home the fallout of the deed. King Edric had seemingly gifted away his throne to the Fae king, and there was no law that could circumvent it, as it was sealed in writing and blood. The Fae King ruled for over 100 years, though the ruling of the country was left mostly to the King’s counsel as was left behind from King Edric III’s rule. As members of the council had to leave, retire, or die, the council chose the successor, pooling power in the hands of a few individuals, resulting in some nepotism, and on occasion, backstabbing. Though people did, time and again, try to take the throne from the Fae King, all failed, as he had a champion by his side always that fought duels with the challengers, and defeated them all. When a woman appeared, claiming to be a descendant of King Edric III, people were skeptical due to the seeming disappearance into obscurity of the remaining Royal family, Queen Celia and the children, the reason for which unknown, as the Royal family was well-liked, and would have had places to go if they had been chased out. Some people claimed that they went down to the shore line, below the castle, and waded into the water, before transforming into fish and swimming away to safety across the oceans to a new land. On confronting the Fae King, the woman, known as Amena Talis, gave argument for her placement on the throne, reciting a lineage that connected her to the last King. The Fae King was apparently unperturbed by both her presence or her speech, and simply vacated the throne, walking to her, and kneeling to her. By all accounts, Amena Talis was as shocked as those others gathered in the hall, but she had not truely gained the throne, as with the departure of the Fae King and no heir directly named, in either blood or writing, people doubted the validity of Amena Talis’s claim, and debates were struck up in that hall. Other people claimed the right to the throne, and more did later as the news spread through the kingdom. To name the most prominent of those who made claims:
-Marcus Fairfax, husband of Lady Lousia Fairfax, claimed right to rule through King Edric III’s younger sibling, a proven lineage through the past 100 years.
-Hubert de Wydra, an Elven Higher Noble, claimed right from being descended from Elvish royalty, and that it was time for an Elven ruler, given the demography of Elvish blood in the kingdom.
-Randolph Skargyll, Lord of Breckonsley, claim right to rule to give the East the due representation it had been lacking.
-The Burrells of Culmeneth argued that one of their own should be allowed to claimed, given their dual heritage of Human and Elvish blood, they could represent both prominent races in one ruler. They put forward Lissia Burrell, of the junior Burrell branch, but she refused to stand, making that claim short lived. Civil war ensued as Nobles backed the claiment they thought worthy. Amena Talis was on the back foot, having no personal fighters to form a core of an army, but she proved herself to be a fierce and accomplished fighter. Skimishes, battles and a siege, Hubert de Wydra was the first to rescind is claim, on the condition that the new council would have equal representation of Elves to Humans. During the war, while camped near the Great forest in Notsley, Amena Talis went into the forest for three days, along with two trusted companions. Upon returning, she proclaimed that she had gone to an ancient shrine and had received the blessing of the Elements, giving her further claim as a chosen of the Six. This forced the hand of those of more religious bent, as until then, there was no favoured claimant. Marcus Fairfax was gravely wounded, and requested to speak with Amena Talis, thinking to be on his deathbed. Amena Talis refused, stating that the journey would be too dangerous at this time but she would meet with him when he was well. Marcus Fairfax asked for a truce, which Amena Talis honoured, but Randolph Skargyll made no promise, instead demanding the withdrawal of his claim, or at least to elect a champion fight on his behalf to once and for all determine whose claim would continue, Skargyll or Fairfax. Marcus Fairfax ultimately withdrew his claim. Eventually two claimants remained. With the kingdom being thrown through turmoil after relative period of peace, Amena Talis and Randolph Skargyll met for talks, and then they both marched into Talisborough. Standing on the steps to the Royal castle, it was announced that these claims would both be honoured, that Amena Talis, by lineage, conquest, and blessed by the elements would become Queen of Kelidonia, and Lanson Skargyll, son of Randolph Skargyll, by conquest and blessing by the nobles, would marry and become King of Kelidonia. A wedding was held later that day, bringing peace back to Kelidonia under a new era of Talis Royals.
