Ambrose Wintertide
Ambrose Wintertide
God of Water, winter and fertility, Father Frost, Great One, Honorable One
Ambrose wasn’t always a god. Adair Wintertide, Lord of Winter and of Wintersword, became an object of fancy of the elder goddess Maia. Seducing him over many years, Maia eventually bore him a son, who was named Ambrose. Growing up, Ambrose only knew the harsh mortal world of Ke’ten and of his kingdom, Wintersword.
During his 23rd year as a mortal, Ambrose’s father passed on, Maia finally calling her lover home. That same year, Ambrose was named the new Lord of Winter. His reign was short lived, however. His uncle, Caldar the god of water summoned the young lord of Winter. During their meeting, Caldar revealed that he was getting too old to carry on as the water god and told Ambrose that he would name him his successor when he stepped down at the next change of gods. Two years would pass before the said change. His kingdom didn’t know of him being named successor to the water god and carried on like he would remain their lord. His advisors informed him that on his 24th name day, he would be married to a princess from a nearby kingdom. Ilayda was her name. Ambrose and Ilayda grew close after their wedding day. Ambrose falling in love with her more and more each day as Ilayda did with him, so when the time came for him to leave and take Caldar’s place as god of Water, it broke his heart to leave her. Instead, he decided to bring her to Col-Tassden in hopes she could reign beside him as
Goddess instead of Lady.
Ambrose should have remembered his history lessons, since he was about to doom poor Ilayda. Once her foot touched the god-touched lands of Col-tassden, the power was too much for her body to take and she died right there in his arms. Grief-stricken, he demanded his mother to return his bride to the land of the living. Maia asked him if he was willing to pay the price, like she asked anyone who dared. The price, she’d be bought back barren and no memory of Ambrose at all. Ambrose accepted and Ilayda was brought back to life. Maia tried explaining to
Ambrose that explaining to Ilayda what happened would just spell disaster, but Ambrose, so overjoyed that his wife and love of his life was back, ignored her warnings.
Losing the love of his life again, was too much for the winter lord, However before he could take his life, to join his beloved in the afterlife, Caldar named him his successor and Ambrose knew now the bitter taste of immortality.
Resigning himself to his new position, Ambrose encased his broken heart in a block of ice.
