Vampires
Vampires are fairly common creatures around the world, although they are far less numerous than Werebeasts">werebeasts in general. However, vampires rarely hide their identity, as they’re usually far more "accepted" in occidental society.
While accepted is not the right term, it's a fact that they are not oppressed the way werebeasts are. Instead, they're often at the very core of popular fantasies: their existence is romanticized, a subject of fetishisation more often than not. Popular imagination labels them as sexy, forbidden love interest and the such.
Nature
Vampires are alike to most undeads. However, they are living creatures, and are very much alive.
They are mortal beings, but usually don't die of old age. At some point (that can vary according to the individual, but usually around 35 to 50 years old), they simply reach maturity and stop aging.
While natural death of vampires have been recorded, it's usually a willfull ending of their life. Once they reached maturity, it seems they can just stop living within a few months if they decide so.
They can be killed in non-natural manners, but it's a very complex task as they are powerful creatures with potent regeneration abilities. Beside, their very slow metabolism make it impossible for them to bleed that much at all, or to process toxins fast enough for poisoning to be lethal.
Vampires can only digest blood, plasma, and sometimes heavily vascularized organs. Any other food they cannot digest, and usually have to puke afterward.
They can’t consume alcohol by its own, but can get drunk on alcoholized blood - some vampires actively seek for drunk people to feed from for this reason.
Ability to turn people
Vampires can turn people into other vampires, but that’s a tedious process. For this to happen, they need to drink from their victim, enough for them to have very little blood left, and then make them drink their own blood to finalize the transformation. The victim will then only be able to come back as a vampire.
The vampirization process is overall much better known than werewolf turning. Therefore, it’s a lot less feared, and some people even are willing to get turned.
However, the legislation is really clear, and turning people into vampires is strictly forbidden.
Vampire genetic pool is strong enough that they can't get turned into werebeasts for example. However, if they have children with another species (especially human), there is a 30 to 50% of chance the child will be a vampire (hybrids are possible, but rare).
Abilities
Vampires have a lot of powerful abilities. In general, they are not people you want to get in fight with.
i. ENHANCED SPEED AND STRENGTH & NIGHT VISION
They are much faster, and much stronger than an average human being, or than an average creature even. A vampire in good shape and with a rush of adrenaline would have no difficulty stopping a car, or running through a whole city in a handful of minutes.
They also have a natural night vision, and can see about perfectly in the dark.
ii. VENOM.
Mature vampires have extremely powerful venom. It works like a really strong drug. It doesn’t fully numb the pain, but distorts its perception and perception of reality in general.
Vampire venom is known to have strong aphrodisiac properties, and to induce powerful feeling of ecstasy.
Immature vampires’ venom is not as powerful before they reach their 20’s. It doesn’t induce ecstasy or work as an aphrodisiac. It however does distort perception of reality, and can still cause dizziness and minor hallucinations.
Because of these properties, on top of chemical composition, their venom can cause serious addictions. Many people actively look for vampires to bite them, seeking the blissful ecstasy their venom induces. Venom addicts are incredibly stigmatized, and poorly treated by the medical field in most case.
Blood Bars usually handle them much more humanly, and can allow them to get their fix in a safe and secure environment.
iii. SPECIFIC ABILITY.
Most vampires develop another ability as they grow, usually focused on manipulation of the mind or body. Hypnosis, sleep inducement, puppetry… It doesn’t always happen, but it’s a recurring thing to occur.
iv. SENSIBILITY TO SILVER & SUNLIGHT.
Silver can block a vampire’s abilities - the venom being the only one that remains. It usually even is painful to the touch for them, and can cause severe burns and excruciating pains.
Sunlight is a big weakness of them as well - They hardly tolerate it. Intense light in general is very uncomfortable, if not painful for their eyes and skin. Pure sunlight is a nightmare for vampires, and can cause incredibly severe burns and wounds.
For this reason, and even though they are able to walk outside by day if using protections (usually solar cream + umbrella for shadow), vampires are mostly nocturnal creatures.
Customs & Habits
Vampires are generally known for their sense of community and organization, which is a culturally focal point of the specie.
Vampire societies work in network, they address their kin to one another if they move and require community support, and created efficient logistic forces to transfer blood, funds, and ressources.
A good example of Vampire organizations network and infrastructure would be Blood Bars">Blood Bar , technically referred to as VABTB (Vampires Addressed Blood Traffic Bar).
Basic Information
Anatomy
Vampires look extremely similar to ordinary humans, with the exception of extremely developed fangs at the upper jaw.
Their canine are extremely long and pointed, fit for piercing skin or leather. They are similar in function and anatomy as those of cobra snakes, pierced to inject venom. Their maxillary first premolar are over-developed and sharp, also fit for piercing or cutting through skin or leather.
Their venom are located above their canine and nested against their maxillary sinus.
Genetics and Reproduction
Vampire genetic pool is considered on the stronger side, and known for its stability. It is hardly prone to modification, and vampire cannot see their biology altered (eg. they can't turn into werebeasts).
Vampire genes dominance depends on the individual. If they have children with another species (especially human), there is a 30 to 50% of chance the child will be a vampire (hybrids are possible, but very rare).
Growth Rate & Stages
Growth rate is similar to those of humans, but young vampires don't reach sexual maturity before ~24-25 years old. Before that age, their venom is much less potent and develops only its hallucinogenic property.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Vampires can only digest blood, plasma, and sometimes heavily vascularized organs. They have no digestive capacities of other kind of food.
They typically don't drink water and draw their hydratation from their blood meals only. Some liquids and drinks can be absorbed if mixed with blood (alcohol, coffee, infusions...).
When possible, vampires generally consume their blood meal over the course of a day rather than during one set meal time. They ideally drink 2L of blood a day but can go extensive periods of time without a blood meal. However, unfed vampires generally become irritable, agressive and bloodthirsty after a few weeks. Such condition is called a Blood Lust and can lead to dangerous, risky behaviors out of frustration and impulsiveness.
Most Vampires rely on Blood Bars">Blood Bars to get their meals, or feed on their entourage (friends, lovers, family...) either through direct contact/bite (rare) or blood sampling (which allows to not envenom their "prey" and is generally more hygienic and safer). Hunting on human or creatures for a blood meal is strictly illegal, and unconsented consumption through direct contact of a person's blood is a criminal act which can send you to prison.
