Marais

Nestled away in the islands of the Nanté, Marais is a colourful, small, nautical city built on the southern tip of Île de Boisseau. The Nanté has long been a sticking point for the Republic. Even after federalisation of Libertia, the western isles have dragged their feet in joining the new order in large part due to the prevalence of piracy and the rule of anarchy across their disunited shores. The Republic, "unfortunately", had to take harder action in bringing the Nanté up to standards and six years after the creation of Libertia, the levies marched into Marais.   Since then, Marais has become a city of two worlds. The old ways of this lamp-light lit town on the edge of the bayou live on. The locals continue their fishing and mud hunting, their crafts, their spiritulistic and shamaistic faith and their arts in the dimly lit, ramshackle streets of the City of Huts. But the shadow of Braevin City hangs over the town from Fort Bohl, where a Libertian garrison keeps a tight ship in maintaining order from the capital. Despite the attempts to civilise Marais, the city remains a hotbed for trouble, and the pirates have only become more daring in light of their persecution.
