Guild of Scholars
The Guild of Scholars is often confused with the Guild of Arcani by the common people. Both are based in grand, stone colleges, after all. However, while the two guilds have a (strangely, for Nurem) positive working relationship, they differ greatly.
The guild is based in Nurem University. This educational institution was not ordered by royal decree, like the Royal College was. The university was founded independently over 300 years ago by wealthy nobles, whose likeminded affinity for knowledge led them to register the Guild of Scholars with the Lord’s Office. The building they chose for themselves was a more humble lot at the time. Now, Nurem University has grown into a walled campus in the centre of the city. Along with St. Dussal’s Cathedral, it is one of the great sights of the city for all to see.
The University is certainly a larger building that the Royal College, and has a unique design of great stone columns supporting its main entrance. One must walk up a reasonable number of steps to pass the columns to the entrance. When entering, you find yourself in a great hall, with a black, shining stone floor and wooden staircases and balconies leading off to the various wings of the university. At the end of this hall is the Great Library.
Above the door to the library are words from the ancient tongue that translate to “Knowledge must be shared with all”. In reality, however, not everyone can gain access to the library, though the means to do so are not so unobtainable. The Library is only to be used by members and associates of the Guild. However, anyone can purchase an associate membership of the guild for 2gp.
The Library consists of three floors, and contains rows upon rows of bookshelves. The majority of them are accounts - written to take records of events, both minor and major - biographies of nobles, lineage records and noble estates.
