Gangs of Nurem
The ever increasing squalor of Nurem's Small District has allowed criminal gangs to gain influence over everyday life and business in the zone. Just crossing over the Northern Divide is like stepping into a dangerous world for the average citizen.
Each gang attempts to carve out a small part of the Small District for themselves, though all fear and respect the shadow of the Underguild.
The Greens
The Greens are relatively small timers. Their activities started as providing muscle for shady merchants and brothel keepers, though now they own many of the establishments they initially protected. Members are generally burly and wear green coloured kerchiefs of any design they can find. They are led by Kurt, an ex-show fighter from the underground fighting rings. He fancies himself a businessman, but his damaged face and brutish personal get in the way of that. The Greens have a small building in the Small District that serves as Kurt's office. The Marlybones
The Marlybones are led by Sinique, a sorcerer, who despite being a vicious crime lord with a fierce rivalry between them and the Greens, protects Sorcerer's from being taken in by the College, which she regards as evil. Their ranks consists of sorcerers and more traditional criminals elements. They make their money by more traditional methods.Phan Mai
Phan Mai grew out of the ranks of easterners who fled from the Empire's growing influence and oppression. Those who fled far enough to Nurem in search of work found a city that rejected them, and poverty soon gripped their small community. The ancient teachings survived as a way of guiding those lost souls, and Phan Mai grew from the jilted community - a cruel drug and people smuggling gang utilising martial arts to best their opponents. The temple in Ibsed founded by Dong Zhe thirty years ago has become a hotspot for the gang's members to train amongst each other.Spider's Diamonds
Spider is the moniker given to Nurem's master thief, who has a long history of stealing some of the nobility's most prized possessions. This illusive figure leads a small, mysterious gang of thieves outside the perview of the Underguild - much to the infuriation of Dredge. Very little is known about Spider - she pays her due to the Underguild and attends the few meetings that they hold. Otherwise, she is a ghost. The Cardinals
A whimsical, bizarre troupe of performers that put on unusual shows in the dingey corners of the Small District, the Cardinals are the theatrical face of the cities largest drug producing operation. Once the show is over, the Cardinals and their leader, Lady Raine, are all business and pursue a bloody and ruthless method of success. They have had very public and bloody conflicts with Phan Mai in the past, and are likely one of the most wealthy gangs in the city. The Leftovers
A gang of children between the ages of 4-17. An unfortunate effect created by the Great War was an epidemic of orphans. As the parents of tens of thousands of children marched to war, their younglings were left behind either in the care of relatives in the case of the richer people, or left to their own devices for the poorer people. Many would never see their parents again, and in Nurem, the orphans became a plague upon the city. With the sole orphanage filled to capacity, and with those willing to take in orphans spent of capability to do so, over a thousand children now roam the streets of the city. The Leftovers is a large gang of these children that causes a mild degree of inconvinience to the busy populace of Nurem. For the most part, they are pick pockets, though their older leader occasionally plans more elaborate schemes. After a year of being a nuisance, Dredge dragged Arthur, their young leader, before him, and demanded loyalty as an associate of the Underguild. Despite the unnerving event, the Leftovers were estatic to be given the recognition by the Underguild and continue their pesky behaviour to this day... although Dredge aims them at targets that suit him.Remove these ads.
