Dawngate
Dawngate (known as Dortóna in old Gilia) is many things, but all of them are undoubtably great in renown. The city is incredibly old, with its oldest buildings dating back to the end of the Age of Wonder. The survival of the ancient portions of the city is unique within Karthica, where the Age of Darkness saw an end to much of the land's old and vast cities. However, Dawngate has persisted as a strategic and well positioned bastion in the arid plains of modern Antios.
A narrow gap in the Crowned Sea, little more than ten miles across, seperates Antios from the Sunderlands and its many feared denizens. The city has repelled many attacks from across this straight in the past, with old walls stained by dragonfire, and a Beach of Skulls from the legendary assault of Khovos, the lich who once threatened old Giliadris for its challenge to his power.
But its powerful defensive qualities or ancient origins are not the sole reason for its renown. Dawngate is the home of Do Fianti - the dominant religion of Karthica's arid East. The incredible temples of the Sun and Moon stand on seperate summits in the city, and it is from here that the Patriarchs interpret the will of the gods to their devoted followers.
Dawngate sees a great number of travellers pass through for many reasons; to avoid the dangerous deserts to the south in travel to Libertia, to make pilgramage, or to sell wares at the first point of contact between the west and east of Karthica - where cultures collide.
