The Wraithgrove

In a world where so many people have turned their backs on magic, followers of The Prismatic Star must seek the most secluded of locations to practice their craft. The most notorious of those is the Witchgrove.

A Secluded Glade

Tucked into canyon in the southernmost section of Stormcrest Ridge, the Wraithgrove manages to remain largely outside the sphere of influence of most civilization in the Reaches. Only the most devout of Inkrys' followers ever venture there, as most who try do not survive the journey. The closest settlements belong to the tribes of The Bloodmarsh, who would no doubt raze the grove if they ever found it. Fortunately, they rarely venture into the mountains.

The Prismatic Playground

Those who do survive the trip to the Wraithgrove are free to conduct magical experimentation without any oversight and with the blessings of Inkrys. Those experiments have made the grove a dangerous place of ever-shifting magics. Terrain routinely shifts, making it difficult to keep track of where you are, and a shimmering purple mist hangs over the whole place. Crystals sprout alongside trees with translucent trunks and stone leaves. Mushrooms as large as buildings grow haphazardly one moment and collapse into iridescent ponds the next. The sheer chaos of the glade makes it deadly for anyone who enters without the blessing of The Prismatic Star.

Not Fully Contained

The experiments that reign supreme in the Wraithgrove tend to be chaotic. Different wizards are regularly working on spells that react badly to one another, and not all of those spells can be fully held within the bounds of the glade. The most dangerous of these experiments to escape have come to be known as Arcane Aberrations by those unlucky enough to encounter them. The product of a wizard intent on creating a being out of pure magic, or at least as much so as possible, packs of these beasts have traveled as far south as The Bloodmarsh. Chaotic and uncontrollable, they are as likely to attack travelers as to cause minor ecological disasters.

Blessing of the Star

For her part, Inkrys does not seem to mind the state of the grove. Never one to shy away from chaos and experimentation, she follows some of the wizards avidly, even providing insights from time to time in the form of dreams. Those intelligent enough, bold enough, and lucky enough to survive and produce successful spells or artifacts gain her favor. Though rare, her priests are nearly all derived from those who make pilgrimages to the Wraithgrove to perform experiments. Her followers might be rare in a world that blames magic for much of the destruction that came out of the great wars, and her priests might be even more so, but those who choose to give themselves to the Star tend to have great power.
