The Blood Wars have raged since the beginning of time. More and more, we need new fronts for the fight. This fertile world seemed an ideal staging zone.

The forces of the Hells regularly seek to insinuate themselves amongst the peoples of the Prime Material Plane. Though they have used different methods in different places, their weapon of choice on Karos is the Incarceri Beetle.

An Unexpected Twist

Who would have thought that a world could be so uncorruptible that it would corrupt my very children?

When the devils planted their beetles in the wilds and small villages of Karos, the expectation was that they would transform whoever they bit into devils. In doing so, the forces of Hell would have a fresh supply of troops for the ever-burning Blood Wars. This did not happen.

Something in the essence of the world: its natural magic, the boundless life, or something else entirely, altered the very nature of the Incarceri Beetles. Rather than spawning a host of devils, the victims instead morphed into a hybrid of devil and whatever they had already been. They retained their memories and free will but gained significant new powers, and in many cases, a burning hatred for those who had transformed them in the first place.

Though the victims of the beetles retained their memories and senses of self, their fate would be far from pleasant. The denizens of Karos are an insular lot, and those who dwell in the wilds tend to be even more so. When they saw their loved ones - husbands, wives, or children - undergoing metamorphosis into devils, many took up arms against their very family members. Many were simply exiled to the wilds to meet their fate, but others were murdered before they could escape. Though the Hells did not gain a new army, the Egg Sower guaranteed that a great many souls would eventually find their way to her realm.
