Troth of Life
According to legend a human wanderer discovered an ancient underground structure while trekking clan across Allegri with her small clan of nomads.A wildfire from the previous season left a normally verdant region relatively barren. Only a handful of sprouts dotted the usually lush landscape which left a recessed doorway barely visible.Unlike anything the ancient humans had ever seen, they eventually figured out how to gain entry through a combination of luck and tenacity - a very human kind of success. Once opened, the entryway immediately lead downward, with a broken line of cold light at ankle-height running off into the eventual darkness. Fearful of being caught in the open for too long, the clan leaders decided they could not risk sending the hunters below to search the strange underground structure.Of course the hero of this tale didn't listen to the leaders. The young hunter lingered as the clan prepared to move on and when there was no one left to see her, she quietly stepped through the strange doorway.
This is the tale of how the Troth of Life was found and inadvertently shaped human culture throughout history. Although lost now, the Troth of Life was already considered an ancient relic when it was found several thousand years ago and it contained the recorded word of a god; Enfir. Much of what she said was incoherent at the time and were mostly considered to be fragmented parts of the recording somehow - the plains folk had nearly no technology to speak of beyond basic leatherwork in that period, so it seemed fantastical that they could listen to the very words of the mysterious primis.
The fraction of the record that was easily understood was significantly dominated with Enfir describing various animals, their habitat, their natural defenses and abilities, and admiring them. Hundreds of hours, all catalogued and numbered. Within these verbose descriptions were references to hundreds of concepts previously far beyond anything the tribal clan was capable of.
It took several years before the use of device was actually useful to the clans. According to the myth, the hero is the only person to believe the relic was important and in the beginning only she could make it speak. Eventually some of the advanced knowledge contained in the troth began to spread among clans, mostly medicinal remedies at first but soon other concepts began to arise.
The hero of the tale became a clan elder and used the knowledge stored within the Troth of Life to help her people. It was passed down every generation for hundreds of years and sudden advances in leatherwork and metallurgy are attributed to the troth. A small sect of Enfirs worshippers grew from this glorious gift from the goddess and those who could 'commune' with the relic were considered blessed in their eyes.
The Troth of Life became legendary among the nomads of that era until it was supposedly lost, hundreds of years later when the clan was raided and its keepers slain.
