Tea Drunk
All Buzz, No Beer
The older man put his hand down hard on the table to brace himself as he stood. He could feel the tea his sister made causing his cheeks to redden and the rush from quickly standing made his whole body briefly feel unsteady. His family watched with knowing grins on their faces as he blithely smiled and squinted at them through the mental haze he currently found himself mired in. At his side in a heartbeat, his sister held his shoulders until he was steady enough to support himself.
Raising his mug in one had, the remaining conversation around the table died as he cleared his throat to speak. "A tribute!" His voice was deep and the wavering of his arm as it remained outstretched before him was a clear indication that he was feeling the herb present in the holiday tea.
"Good cheer to my amazing sister for this incredible feast!" He cheered and the others raised their own mugs in agreement.
"May the blessings of High-hollow carry us through the dark nights ahead! Oh! And may our family continue to please our blessed patron, Aldrek Demo'rai as we fumble forward into the season of darkness ahead!"
Despite the slight slurring of his words and the warble in his sonorous voice the sentiment was clear and noble. Everyone at the table cheered in agreement and they all reached their mugs across the table to tap them against each other before all taking large gulps of their chosen beverages.
A common and quite popular condition among Allegran culture, being 'tea drunk' is similar to the kind of drunkeness you'd expect from alcohol with a few notable exceptions. Many families and neighborhoods within the capital cities keep small herb gardens for personal use and many of these plants have mind-affecting properties when properly treated and prepared. The mild high achieved by imbibing tea made from these herbs is not received in the same manner as actual drunkenness and is even admired in certain situations or during holiday celebrations such as High-hollow or Birth Parties.
