Charter of Maenar

Collection of Religious Myths & Parables

The history of the Primis and their relationship to humankind is convoluted and full of contradictions. Each member of the Primis has their own following and this document serves as a baseline collection of the stories, myths, and teachings set out by Maenar above all the others. The book is commonly referred to as simply 'the Charter' by those who align themselves with Maenari Primacy faith and is frequently referenced or quoted directly during sermons or church gatherings.

Equality & Vows

One of the primary reasons humans have been drawn to worship Maenar is Maenar's intense dedication to truth and keeping their word, once given. This is the cornerstone of their beliefs and as part of the greater pantheon has helped shape Allegran culture since it's very beginning. Contained in the pages of the Charter are dozens of legends, parables, and lessons that the faithful have gathered together as examples of how humankind should behave. Many of the oldest stories are accounts of meeting Maenar first-hand or of those who witnessed 'Oathbound Lord' perform some kind of miraculous action or stand in direct opposition to the actions of another Primis that would've caused harm to a community or large number of innocent folk.

Law & Justice

Since most of Allegran society is based on the prinicples and concepts laid out by the Primis, it's not surprising that the basic laws and 'rules' of conduct among the Maenari are standard fare across the continent. Those who worship Maenar above other Primis tend to take this further and more literally than others due to the importance it places on community and the many benefits of working together.
Among those dedicated to Maenar it is custom to follow the law in good-faith and to enter all agreements with trust, regardless of past trouble. Laws are not to be weaponized against those who fall short but all people should be held accountable for their failings and helped to correct whatever went wrong to prevent them from keeping their word. An incompetent man is not the same as a liar and even an honest fool will be respected above someone who continually makes promises with no intention of keeping them.

Purpose

The main purpose behind collecting these stories and making them widely available is to spread the philosophy of Maenar to those who might benefit from its insights. Most humans living in the capital cities are familiar with Allegran custom and how to treat other citizens. This is based firmly on the examples set by Maenar and the various ways they've intervened throughout human history to instill a sense of order and logic in humans as their culture evolved.
Prior to the Allegran Accords it was uncommon for any large number of humans to collaborate for very long unless a dire threat loomed overhead. Maenar encourages their followers to stay near each other and to care for those around you, regardless of personal threats so the community can thrive.
