The Squad
Uri Arcgelen commands a loyal band of about a hundred mercenaries, known as the Squad, who's job it is to provide security for the Crossroads, a small starbase located in the Roslexian Sector. They are responsible for operating the laser array which provides the outer defenses for the base as well as handling any situations that get too out of control on the inside. The Squad has also been known to lend a hand with Uri's lucrative black market smuggling operation from time to time, but that part is strictly hush hush.
History
The Squad first came into being way back during the acquisition wars. Before that, the Crossroads hadn't really needed much of a security force. Of course, the little galaxy of Kantostara had also been a happier place back before the acquisition wars had begun. At any rate, once things started heating up, the Crossroads found itself constantly being attacked from the outside while also being infiltrated from within. It quickly became clear to the Arcgelen brothers that, if they wanted to keep their starbase from being taken over by the UAG, they were going to need a lot more muscle, so Gabe put out the call and Uri began training the recruits that would become the Squad.Recruitment
Members of the Squad are hand picked by Uri from among the most highly skilled and experienced professionals in the galaxy. Many factors go into being chosen, but the most important one is that the recruit has a strong belief that everyone has the right to freedom from UAG control.Compensation
Like all of the staff, the members of the Squad find a home at the Crossroads. The Arcgelen brothers pay very well and treat their employees like family. The many perks of being a part of the Squad inspires great loyalty.Special Talents
The Squad is well known for its adaptability which is a quality that is necessary when you are responsible for the protection of a wild place like the Crossroads. You never really know what's going to happen on any given day, so you have to be able to roll with the punches. One moment, you might find yourself being called to stop a thraxian merchant from killing his partner in a dispute over a crate of fruit, while the next moment, you might be chasing down someone's ferocious pet luboo that somehow got loose on the promenade.
