The Declaration of Sovereignty

The small starbase on the edge of the Roslexian Sector, known as the Crossroads, is infamous as a pretty lawless place where just about anything goes, but believe it or not, they actually have a founding document. Of course, that's not public knowledge. Only the Arcgelen brothers are aware of it.

History

  It all started way back during the acquisition wars, after the destruction of the Bane'ile home world, when the United Association of Guilds (UAG) from Taanruk was in the midst of an aggressive campaign to take over the interstellar trade routes of Kantostara. At the time, the Crossroads was located at the intersection of three of those routes, so it became a prime target for acquisition, but the Arcgelen brothers, who owned the starbase, were not willing to give it up to UAG control. After many skirmishes, Gabe, Mike, Rafi, and Uri grew tired of the constant fighting and decided to move the Crossroads to the edge of the sector, just outside of UAG controlled territory, so it would no longer be a target. No one is quite sure how they managed to move an entire starbase, but then, there's a lot about the Arcgelen brothers that no one is quite sure of. At any rate, the Crossroads went on to become a safe haven for independent light freighter pilots and merchants who wanted to steer clear of UAG regulations.

Legal Status

  The Declaration of Sovereignty, affectionately referred to by the brothers as "the Dec," is not actually a legal document. It began as a bit of a joke, but was soon adopted as part manifesto and part rules of operation for their starbase.

The Document

  We the undersigned do hereby declare the Crossroads to be sovereign territory free from UAG control and interference, established as an oasis where all are free to be who they are and do as they please. All those who enter here are free to conduct their personal and professional activities as they see fit provided that their behavior does not damage starbase property or interfere with the free will and/or safety of others. Anyone found engaging in behaviors deemed too extreme by the undersigned will be expelled immediately.   In other words, anything goes between mutually consenting adults as long as you don't bust up the place or kill each other.   Party on folks!     Signed,   Gabe, Mike, Rafi, and Uri   (collectively known as the Arcgelen brothers)
