Consonant Sickness

Consonant sickness is a new condition that has recently developed due to the use of the innovative technology of the consonant matrix which utilizes complex crystalline matrices to enable multiple scepter tone key crystals to smoothly blend their energies and work together in tandem. Because these matrices combine the power of several scepters, rather than the other types of tone key crystals found in the average matrix, they emit vibrational frequencies that are far in excess of even the large matrices used for the propulsion of the new cavalier class of super freighters. While the pilots who bond with the individual scepters are well shielded, the crew members who operate and maintain the consonant matrices are subjected to a much higher level of those dangerous vibrational frequencies, making them susceptible to this debilitating condition.

Symptoms

  The early symptoms of consonant sickness are severe nausea and disorientation combined with skin sensations similar to having insects crawling all over one's body. Prolonged exposure to the vibrational frequencies emitted by consonant matrices can result in seizures, delirium, permanent neurological damage, and even death.

Treatment

  First and foremost, the patient must refrain from being in close proximity to the consonant matrix, at least until such time as all symptoms of the sickness are no longer present. Standard protocols can be applied to treat the symptoms, and depending on the severity of the condition, the patient may be expected to make a full recovery.

Prevention

  At present, the only way to prevent consonant sickness is to limit one's exposure to the vibrational frequencies emitted by consonant matrices. For this reason, the crew members who operate and maintain these matrices work in rotating shifts, which are half the duration of a standard shift, allowing for sufficient rest periods in between to prevent over exposure. In addition to that, the research and development department of the UAG is currently working to create stronger methods of shielding, to provide a more long term solution to the problem, thereby increasing efficiency while eliminating the cost of crew members being unable to work due to illness.
