Atali (a-tah-lee)

Lu eyed the plate of food that Mike placed on the bar in front of her. "I didn't ask for this."   "No, but you need it more than that drink."   Even though she didn't really feel hungry, she knew he was right, so she picked at her food while Mike polished glasses and waited for her to ask the question that had her so deep in contemplation. "Do you happen to know if anyone around here still makes atali these days, or maybe grows ye'dide flowers?"   "That's not really my area of expertise. You could try Rafi, though. He might know." Lu made a mental note to ask Mike's brother next time she saw him while Mike tried to steer the conversation back to what he suspected was really on her mind. "So, what made you think about that all of a sudden?"   "I don't know.....I.....well..... I guess I'm just wondering if I'm losing what's left of my mind. Ever since I woke up this morning, I could swear that I've been smelling atali."   A knowing grin spread across Mike's face as he suggested, "Maybe it's just an old friend trying to get in touch. Sometimes you need to lose your mind to find your heart."

Description

Atali is the mysterious red oil that is extracted from the deep red ye'dide flowers that grew all over Bane'ile. Although it appears to be a brilliant red in its liquid form, the color quickly disappears when applied to the skin. Atali's rich fragrance is an exotic blend of warm spicy, woodsy, citrusey notes with a hint of musk.

Usage

Atali is commonly used as an anointing oil in many of the spiritual practices of the Bane'ile. For this reason, it is crafted by the acolytes in training to become tribal singers according to a specific procedure known only to those who are part of the temple enclave. One of the magickal properties that the Bane'ile associate with atali is the ability to heal the heart, giving rise to the romantic custom of gifting the one you love with ye'dide flowers.
