Glazed Carrots and Parsnips

Glazed carrots and parsnips is a dish found served all around the world. The recipes are often different; the sweeteners, seasonings, and techniques vary from place to place. Molasses, honey, sugar, or syrup is included in the glaze. In some places, citrus of some kind is included in the glaze, while in other places something like soy sauce or tomatoes have been used. Seasonings, including salt and pepper, are included most of the time, even in the more simple recipes. Often mint, parsley, or dill is included in the recipe.

The carrots and/or parsnips are often cut into rounds or sticks, although in some areas it is considered more elegant to glaze the entire carrot and/or parsnip and cut off the ends at the table. It is considered a perfect staple because it is both cheap and delicious. It is most often served as a side dish with either meat or bread to go with it, although it has been known to be the entire meal in some peasant households. It has even been known to be served as a dessert in some places.

It has been known to be eaten by the most popular of kings and the lowest of peasants. It has been given the honor of saving the countries of Ivern and Petham from war when the two kings stopped fighting after discovering their shared love for the dish. It has been exchanged for potatoes, celery, and peppers in some areas, although carrots or parsnips are considered the best.

The most famous recipe for Glazed Carrots and Parsnips had seventy-two ingredients. It was served to the king of Ochindal. He did not like it. The commonest recipes are usually only five or six ingredients, with carrots, parsnips, a sweetener of some sort, a liquid, and a seasoning or two.
