The Wanderer
The Travelling Story - The Wanderer
Core Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Domains: Travel, Chaos, Trickery, Order
The Gem of the Wanderer was odd, forming long branches and strands around a single milky white core that branch out like a tree as it grows. The being that formed from it started to adventure and explore, wandering into dark places and the unknown with a passion. They were the first to wander over the seas, and they saw the great rainforests and wandering mountains before any of the other gods even made the trek. The initial trails that the Wanderer made are still roads taken today, and his influence isn’t just in the places explored and found with every generation.
It was the Wanderer that discovered the two Godless species, who at first rejected the presence of the gods, in favor of more spiritualistic faiths. Humans who were first found in the windy plains of Osoneth, and while they welcomed the god, they challenged the power he held, with faith in the world itself, and the natural spirits and beings that existed and channel natural energies through Kalio herself. The Wanderer spent many years among the humans, before moving on, leaving behind a complex relationship that would bloom into the charge for Humanity to engage in the Void War less than a century later.
The Wanderer spent many of the following years not claiming any settled domain over Kalio, instead spending his time exploring more of, exploring far and wide. from edge to edge of the world. It was then, in the deep jungles of Claeria he found the bestial and violent Carver hives. His encounters with them were far more challenging, as they didn’t respect the male gender at all, instead focused on their queens. The longer the Wanderer stayed with them though, the less violent they became, understanding more about their neighbors with the passing of time.
The War came, and while the exploration of the Wanderer led to expeditions into the Void itself, trying to find the source of the Darkness, the creatures that they found in their wake came to bat for Kalio. Humanity and the Carvers alike both drew blades in defense of their home and their neighbors. The Wanderer returned shortly after the fall of Kalio, and while the Hero still was working on overcoming their fears of disappearing, the Wanderer took one final tour of Kalio to check on all the things they had seen. Most of Kalio was safe from vanishing, as many of the other gods had already sacrificed their hearts to repair the damage of the void on Kalio. Even the Carvers had been saved by the Mother when she recklessly ran into their jungles before leaving.
The Wanderer found though, that the Plains of Osoneth had not been saved in the mess of the War. The paths that disappeared in winds were now fading into nothing, and the tribes of humans were moving as fast as they could, avoiding where the holes in reality started to form. The Wanderer smiled and gathered the tribes of humanity together. He brought them all to Cria and told them of the wonders they had once shared with him. He smiled, and then gave them all his heart, saying that no one tribe should hold the gem in its entirety, and he gently split the gem into several shards, giving one to each of the tribes. To this day, it's supposed that each of the parts of the Wanderer’s gem is held by the ancestors of those tribes, still whole, as they were not separated in anger or design, but all part of the whole, roads leading back to the Wanderer’s heart.
The Modern Wanderer is still more often than not, possessed by a lust for exploration, although that isn’t always of the wilds or the unknown of Kalio. Sometimes they’re explorers of magic and science or explorers of art and compassion. Their faith is fairly tame and common, held among travelers, mercenaries, merchants, and all who take to the roads and seas for their fortune. It isn’t a religion of compassion or perfection, simply understanding and interest seeking to learn more about the world around you.
Core Tenants of the Wanderer’s Faith
The unknown only remains unknown as long as someone allows it to stay that way. Explore and seek to understand, and it will set you free of fear of the unknown.
The Roads are a dangerous place. Take your friend's shoulder to your own, and treat those who travel as a kindred spirit. Those who would take away from the Road are your enemy, and you should band together to protect those who would protect you.
The Foreign cultures of other people are not wrong. They are simply different, and you will find that no matter the actions you take, in the end, we are all seeking to survive and make sense of the world and that commonality will bring us together more than not.
