The Beacon
The Creative and Inspiring- The Beacon
Core Alignment: Chaotic Creative
Domains: Stars, Art, Creation, Beauty, Inspiration, Life
The Lady Bard herself, the Beacon has always been the patron of the arts, and subject of more works of art than almost any subject in Kalio. Her gem, a river smoothed piece of rainbow Opal, in the shade or darkness, seems to sparkle with little stars and lights, that glitter seductively below the surface, but when exposed to the light of the sun, magic, or sometimes just the light of inspiration? It explodes with life and color and beauty.
During the first days of her existence, the Beacon sang for her mother, painted for the people, and wove many of the first stories that are still being told to this day in Kalio.
When the Void War began, much of the Beacon’s efforts went into relief, helping mortals not lose faith, and keeping many of the worlds mortals on the side of light, instead of falling to the Void. But it wasn’t enough for some. Kalio herself began to become despondent, hating herself, and hating what the world was becoming. Her gods, her champions and children rarely visited. The Void continued to whisper in her ear every day… saying the most horrible things. It began to Warp Kalio herself, and in her sacred duty, the Beacon tried to bring her back from that edge. However, nothing of her normal repertoire helped. If anything, Kalio slipped further and further into darkness. So, the Beacon began to search for new forms of art…. Of entertainment, and of contact.
When they did so, they found something interesting. Other worlds reaching out for contact. Anterra. Somilis. Danfesa. Jekeri. Worlds all out in the Void, and its oppressive darkness. Their songs were coming through the darkness at random, and the Beacon gained her namesake, when she began to sing for the darkness of the cosmos. Her song rode through the Void, and reached these other worlds, and in their song, Kalio finally was lifted from her haze. There were other worlds going through her pain, and her anger. It made her angry. It made her hopeful. The Void was nothing but a hungry, and greedy fiend of a being. It would not take her like it kept trying to, and would try with all of these other worlds.
Thus began the tradition of Starsinging. The Beacon taught many others, and soon, the new art allowed for those gifted with magic in their blood to reach beyond the borders of Kalio, and sometimes call upon aid from other worlds. Modern Mantle Holders of the Beacon are expected to be creative, and many young artists of all kinds seek the Beacon’s blessing, thinking it will ignite their muse to new levels. However, faiths that surround the Beacon often focus on the idea that the Beacon is a healer of minds and hearts. Art is just a medium in which someone can do this. The Beacon lead back the world from the edge, and those who follow her example are leaders, guides… they heal those who are lost, and give them purpose once more.
Core Tenants of the Faith surrounding the Beacon:
• Care for those undergoing the Transitions of Life. They are at their most Fragile and need a hand to hold.
• Sentience is Sacred. Destroy that would Threaten that construct. Those who disrespect its sanctity are the enemies of humanity and all it stands for. They are no better than the Void that wishes to extinguish Kalio’s light.
• Everything has its time. Nothing is truly immortal, and those who would extend their life will face darkness with time. Don’t rush those who aren’t ready. Their time will come.
