Sk'rik

Sk'rik

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Like most male K'Vir, Sk'rik is of diminutive build, far shorter than most humans. A lifetime of hard living has left his body frail and underfed, yet the challenges of daily survival have made him extremely nimble, far more so than one would expect from such an unassuming little creature.

Body Features

As an Archnia K'Vir, Sk'rik's appearance has many spider like traits. The most noticeable of these are his additional limbs, each ending in distinctly inhuman claws. While much of his appearance is kept hidden within his signature hooded poncho, what skin is exposed is mottled with dark, chitinous protrusions.

Facial Features

Sk'rik rarely shows the full visage of his face, as he does not enjoy being seen, but from within his hood, one can often see his many chittering mandibles, as well as his eight, black eyes.

Apparel & Accessories

Sk'rik prefers clothing that covers his appearance from others, as well as allows full physical mobility. In this regard, his hand woven poncho fulfills his goals perfectly. Within it's folds also contains numerous pockets and satchels, in which he carries a variety of items, including scavenged food, tools, and weapons.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Sk'rik was raised within a small, impoverished hive on the outskirts of Laco Glade. His mother had stumbled upon an abandoned homestead that had been overtaken by the jungle, and had dug her hive within the rotted out barnhouse. It was here that Sk'rik's clutch was laid.
Sk'rik's early life was devoted to the hive's survival. This initially included foraging, hunting, and the crafting of supplies, but as times became harder, he was sent to more desperate acts, including stealing from the citizens of Laco Glade, and the defense of his family from neighboring hives & raiders. It was a difficult life, but Sk'rik dreamed of the stories his mother sang to them, of the Swarm of years past, of the coming of the Wanderer, of the Echoes of legend.
Sk'rik's simple life took a complicated turn with the death of his hive. What unforseen circumstances lead to their destruction remain lost to Sk'rik. All that is known is that he returned from his foraging to find the corpses of much of his brood, most notably of all his mother. Memories of this time in his life become hazy, but it was in this haze that Sk'rik came to an important decision: that the struggles of his people, of all peoples, must be alleviated.
And so Sk'rik left Claeria. Ever since, Sk'rik has traveled the Wanderer's path in search of a solution to the violence of the world. One day he hopes to give his people unifying purpose, a Swarm not of conquest, but of coexistence. For as his mother always used to end that favorite story of his: "The times change, but the Swarm survives. Always".

Education

Sk'rik has no formal education. His initial knowledge of the world was provided to him through the songs of his mother, who sang the histories of the Swarm to his brothers each night. He was also trained in traditional four-armed fighting styles of his people, as K'Vir life within the jungles of Claeria is a hard and violent existence. It wasn't until he began traveling the world that he learned Trade Common and basic world history.

Employment

Sk'rik has always relied on foraging & theft to get by. The only exception to this was a brief stint as a sort of clerk/odd jobs employee for a small religious organization dedicated to the Wanderer. Here, Sk'rik learned much of the wisdom of the Gods, as well as learned most of the Trade Common he now speaks.

Taboos

Sk'rik's upbringing as a drone has left him with a psychological desire to not be seen, and he is deeply uncomfortable in the spotlight. To this end, he prefers to keep himself covered and in the background.
In his time among mammals, Sk'rik has also learned that many K'Vir mannerisms are considered distasteful to those of other races. Most notably is their eating habits, specifically the liquefying of solid matter. To both avoid the discomfort of others as well as prepare for potential future periods of famine, Sk'rik avoids eating solid food in front of others, and prefers to pocket meals for later consumption. Most other races would consider this bad table manners.
Sk'rik has never known the comfort of a bed, growing up sleeping on rotten wood and soft soil alongside his brothers. He has tried bed rolls and cots since, but he finds them disconcerting and unstable, and much prefers sleeping on hard surfaces.

Personality Characteristics

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Sk'rik is an expert in the K'Vir weapon-fighting style of his family, known in Trade Common as "Fang & Claw". This martial art involves a four armed practitioner fighting with a combination of long and short reaching weapons, traditionally a spear and dagger. It was designed to take full advantage of a K'Vir's many arms to continuously switch weapon hands and distances from a target to create openings for attack, prioritizing dynamic unpredictability over direct power.

Vices & Personality flaws

Sk'rik has an insatiable sweet tooth. Honey in particular is a major fancy of Sk'rik's, and is one of the few semi-solid foods Sk'rik will eat in public without a second thought.

Social

Religious Views

While not a member of any particular religion, Sk'rik has taken great comfort in the wisdom of the Wanderer, and has chosen to follow his example for the remainder of his days.

Social Aptitude

Sk'rik is adjusting to being seen as an individual, as well as to the greater customs of the outside world. This is readily apparent through his odd mannerisms and his unwillingness to communicate at times. He is undoubtedly the least charismatic member of the Ivory Cloaks.
