Naming Traditions
Family names
Author Note:
Like many people from Kandever, I like to make the Family names of people from Kandever tie themselves in with the British Isles. As the Vaulters of this Area, this means that Family names are almost entirely based on 3 languages. Gaelic, Welsh, and Gaulish. These, combined with English and Modern Irish names, often creates the Harcos naming style.
Culture
Major language groups and dialects
The Harcos almost entirely have adopted the Kandevi language. Thrumm is entirely considered an Archaic language, used purely in religious ceremonial language, meant to understand the Vault, family history, and nothing else.
Of course, the Harcos dialect of Kandevi is often considered filled with rough terms, and mechanical, something called Skipjack by Kandevi speakers, as it uses allusions, contracted phrases, and complex metaphors, to actually make sense of the language.

Shared customary codes and values
The Dust Patterns of the Harcos, are deeply involved in their spirituality. The lines of Silver, Steel, Brown, and Bronze for Earth dust, will often follow bone lines, reinforcing thin and more fragile bones than the most of Vaulter kind, allowing for Harcos to be as strong as other Vaulters, despite their elongated stature.
Each of the patterns often follows 3 paralell circuts of lines and concentric circles at joints, through as these Vaulters work in concert, or fight in concert with other beings, they light up, often in response to other peoples actions. This supposedly is due to the Harcos' communal ability to work together quite well, creating a weak telepathic field, that supposedly binds the Harcos together, and allows them to grow as a community.

Ideals
Beauty Ideals
As a whole, a Healthy Harcos will grow tall and wiry, settling in around 5 feet in height, with pale skin, and dark eyes of a Black or Brown tone for their irises. Men will possess heads full of hair the colors of Iron and Rust or in rare circumstances gold, and often have issues growing facial hair, but will have fuzzy arms and legs, and often fit into a thinner frame. Women often will have long, silky hair, in colors of silver or gold.
Idealized versions of both of these are often the Women's ideal of Men, being strong, with long angular features, and large eyes, with curly hair, while women idealize themselves as shorter, with longer fingers, that are good at detailed work for their crafts.
Rarely, Harcos will develop eyes like gems, with colors beyond the black and brown they normally have, and this is a sign the gods have blessed a child.... unless they have eyes that are almost purely white, like diamonds or moonstone. This is a firm curse, and such children are often shunned, or outright abandoned on the surface.
Gender Ideals
Men: Men are often expected to fufill one of three roles. House-Man, where he rears, raises, and manages the children of a Harcos Household.
Soldier, where he will take up arms, engage in his violent passions and needs, to serve something greater than himself, and his need for combat and bloodshed (popular opinion, not neccessarily the truth)
Clergy, who will study the texts of the Vault, interpret the sounds of the Machines, and direct the Clergy who enact the will of the Vault and Maintain it.
Women: Women however, are much more involved in Harcos society, running the majority of its politics, agriculture, manufacturing, and everything in between, including the merchantry and logistics of all these fields.
Courtship Ideals
If a Harcos woman finds a Male she wishes to Court, she must first approach said Male's mother to do so. The two will contract a period where the courting woman is allowed to attempt to woo said male. From there, a woman must engage in said courtship behaviors. Ideally, this means proving to the male that she is capable of supporting his wars, if he is a soldier, or if he is among the clergy, they must show their skill in understanding the will of the machine. If the Male reciprocates interest in the woman, he is expected to respond in kind, attempting to understand their field of expertise, such as crafting her a Tool of her trade, or growing her a garden as acceptance of her proposal.
Relationship Ideals
If both parties have accepted, a Harcos male is then his wife's by intent of Harcos law after they are wed. If she wishes, she can recall him from services in his fields, especially if he is expected to rear a child, meaning the clergy and army is often filled with single males, men who aren't wanted at home, or men incapable of rearing children. Marriage is considered lifelong, and while divorce is possible, it usually must be proven that the Woman is abusive in some form or another, incapable of being a mother, or possessing of traits that are improper for a woman to have.
Oddly enough, if women find a man unworthy of their time, Society does not allow her to divorce a man, unless she can specifically prove his infertility. Otherwise, the commonplace thing to do is to find an affair with a man, and simply remain married to her husband. This is due to the Harcos ideal, that the Man is incapable of providing for himself, outside of stealing through combat and war. As such, a woman is supposed to provide for her husband, even if she has lost her affection for him, unless he cannot provide in his duties as a husband.
