Aural Language

Aural language is a catch-all term for multiple languages that arose using one's aura as a representation of concepts. In the most simple concept, words or meanings are portrayed by a rapid transformation of aura. For example, to mean self, one would rapidly transition from happy to fearful when communicating. Others would sense this rapid and open exchange of aura and impart meaning to it.

Structure

Aural languages have been found all over Kald. Anywhere there are multiple species and one or more people are mute, def, or otherwise cannot vocalize or portray meaning through motion, communication through one's aura will take form. For the same reasons telepathy would be more effective than sign or vocalized languages, the inherited drawbacks are greater than the benefits compared to the Aural languages.

Aural a;O;u;

Due to the similarity of the a;O;u; language and especially its written form, many modern Aural language users use the a;O;u; aural language. Many words are the same, nearly transliterated from a;O;u; to the aural form. This makes it easy for many non-impaired to learn and speak with those who are in need of the use of an aural language.

ta’i, in a;O;u; means self and is written as eigth-black + eigth-blue. Black or suz is the same element as the emotion love and blue, nep is sorrow. So, in aural a;O;u, one would love for a short time then suddenly feel sadness for a short time. Words and grammar are simplified compared to common a;O;u; due to the difficulty of holding and rapidly changing emotional states.

Grammar is SVO with the most limited amount of words possible. So, rather than saying "I’m going to get some milk from the store", the aural sentence would be “retrieve store milk” with the subject simplified. Self-referential subjects tend to be implied tend to be implied.

Difficulty

One would think this would be more widely used as a common ground between different species and their ability to vocalize or profess with body language. But the ease and centuries of reliance on sound-based communication systems have pushed it to a niche for the deaf, mute, impaired, and curious. Similarly, with any written language, which is ubiquitous, aural languages are less used in personal conversations than sound-based.

The primary road block for the wider adoption of aural languages is the difficulty of professing multiple emotions rapidly, succinctly, and accurately. Actors might find this easier to accomplish, but the layman will struggle if not practiced since childhood. Not to mention personal and current emotions tendency to muddle a conversation. If you happen to be angry, you might say the wrong word...

The aura broadcast seems very imprecise, conveying emotional states and colors but what about abstractions, numbers? I confess to not having a good grasp of how it functions. The article suggests emotional /color flashes with indistinct vocabulary. What is a "store" in this? Hunger/ Satisfaction/ Give/ take? Spirit speech in my world is similar but a bit different, as it is more telempathy and image thoughts.

It is quite imprecise. Numbers would be just like any other words, abstractions might be more complicated. Sore might be something like that, depending on what's understood by the people that speak it as "store". There is telepathy in Kald, but that's frowned upon in most cultures, since it's two way and can lead to... let's just say further intrusions is the least of the worry... I do like Spirit speech, however.

Kriltch, arcanities not included.
