A twist of fate uncovers a series of treacherous actions committed by the Duke of Moridale
It all started with a lone man slipping on wet cobblestones. His name was Bendrick Thislebough. He was of average heigh, average age, average appearance. In fact, to look upon him as you walked by, if you noticed him at all, you would have quickly forgotten him as you past. Bendrick was far more than he appeared though. Over the last decade, Bendrick has been a key strategic advisor to the Duke of Moridale operating exclusively in the background. The secrecy attached to both his identity and his role, a testament to his immense skills and intellect. It was late at night and a rain shower had just passed over Doomsayers Keep leaving the cobblestone streets slippery. Bendrick fell heavily, slipping on the cobblestones and hitting his head on the ground as he fell unconscious. As luck would have it a kindly stranger witnessed the accident and presented Bendrick to the healers at the Halls of the Hallowed Light for their assistance. Some hours later, Bendrick awoke, but his headaches were so intense he writhed in pain, prompting the healers to give him milk of the poppy to allow him to sleep while his body recovered. Two days later a man claiming to be representing Bendrick’s family arrived at the Halls of the Hallowed Light demanding Bendrick immediately be surrendered to his care so he can be returned home. The Healers were reluctant as Benrick was clearly in no shape to travel but so strong was the insistence that they eventually agreed. But only after it was agreed to afforded him one more nights sleep in the infirmary. What no one knew at the time is that pressure from the injury was steadily building up inside Bendricks head. On what was to be his final night in the infirmary he became delirious. He began ranting. At first it seems like disjointed nonsense, although as he went on, his rambling took on a more sinister tone. He soon began talking of the assassination of Hadovean Senator Cigsiax along with the Doomsayers Keep Special Representative in 1256. The Scholars were informed immediately and in the dead of night the patient was transferred to a more secure part of the building once the Scholars representative arrived. By twist of fate the, the Healer changed with caring for him that night was a portly man with a bald head, a dark moustache and goatee. In his delirious state, Bendrick had mistaken the Healer for the Duke of Moridale. Bendrick went on to not only retell the Senator Cigsiax assassination, including details about the scene that were known only by a handful of Scholars and Balthewford Gurad, he also revealed through his ramblings how Moridale provided temporary sanctuary and resources to the Assassins involved in the attempt on King Allards life which occurred later in 1256. All this at the order of the Dule of Moridale himself. Only the Gods would know what more would have been revealed if not for the pressure in Bendricks brain resulting in his death in the early hours of the morning. The response from Doomsayers Keep was swift, firstly informing Hadovea and Geldheim of their findings before demanding that the Duke of Moridale surrender himself to Doomsayers Keep so he can be afforded a fair trial for his alleged crimes. The Kingdom of Geldheim and the Hadovean Empire were outraged at the news and demanded justice. They supported the Doomsayers demand of the Duke but warned should he not surrender, they would take matters into their own hands.
