Lord Chieften

The nominal figure head of the Erayax.

Their only real authority at their disposal is a casting vote, if required, on the Council of Tribes. And of course that which they can implement by force of arms.
Of course during times of major conquest the role becomes that of something like a War Duke.
Presumably the same would apply were the Erayax ever attacked, however, this has not occured ever in recorded history.

Requirements

Having survived so far is a basic requirement for any position on the Council.

Duties

During times that, for the Erayax would be classed as peace, the role of the Lord Chieften is, as described, nominal only at best.
When the Erayax are organising significant raids south however, their role transforms into something best described as a War Duke. They weild almost total control of the Military actions.
The rewards can be significant, so too though can be the retribution for any failures.

Responsibilities

Ovearall responsibility for all campaigns Erayax inflict upon the southern factions.
Whilst there are frequently smaller incursions, these would generally be at the behest of clan leaders within easy reach of the borderlands.

Benefits

Successful southern raids bring wealth in a wide variety of shapes and forms.
From the almost thought of as conventional, supplies, treasures of various types and a range of resources - prisoners are highly valued as well. The Erayax rely on a partial slave economy quite heavily.
The Lord Chieften is afforded the "pick" of the lot with returning prisoners.

Accoutrements & Equipment

A replica of the Taramax Shard mounted in a sceptre.
The original is stored in safe keeping, it is immensely sacred and simply far too powerful a relic to be used as a mere ceremonial device. The actual sceptre has been broken on several occassions when used in an act of anger. Keeping the sacred gem safe has proven prudent.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

Removal or dismissal from office is always the result of a challenge for leadership.

A challenge for leadership is settled by a fight to the death. Despite the potential instability of these uncertain terms in office the system somehow works, at least for the Erayax.
