Coral Bulbs
Overview
In warm oceans with coral reefs that have experienced high degrees of magical exposure there exists the possibility of Coral Bulbs to sprout. These plants start as small nodules on the coral reefs and as they grow in size they drain the coral of all it's nutrients leaving it a light gray shade while also providing the reef a new section to build off of. After the Coral Bulbs have finished feeding off its host they release themselves and float to the surface and after being exposed to the air they bloom revealing their beautiful colors reminiscent of the reef below. They also have an array of alluring smells they emit that are different for every creature that catches their fragrance.
Appearance
While on the coral reefs the bulbs start out as small gray nodules no larger then a persons fingernail, but as they feed on their host they can grow upwards of the size of a large pumpkin. As they grow their nodules maintain their gray color and when the entire coral plant they feed off of matches the color of the bulbs exterior they release from their host. After they bloom the gray exterior is flush with the water line and they beautifully petaled surface face the sky's coming in all the fluorescent colors of the reefs below.
Effect
The Coral Bulbs produce a hallucinogenic fragrance in the air after they bloom and they have been know to lure ships in from miles away just from the faint wisps that are carried in the wind. The fragrance replicates pleasant smells for the people that catch whiff and attempt to lure the creature and create more powerful hallucinations as they exposure to the fragrance increases. Due to the alluring presence some aquatic predators hunt near the blooming bulbs and advantage of the addled prey.
