When Zaratka began its military expansion, Brynlach sequestered itself in a hasty bargain that covered its borders in an eternal storm.
Murigel, the Elder Storm
After Zaratka's military efforts were no longer focused on overtaking Iskirthos in their brutal first military action, they turned their attention to Brynlach, a quiet nation with no military to speak of. After being denied help from surrounding powers, settlements lost in immediate capture, and battles with no victories, a ritual was invoked to call an elemental from the ancient world, Murigel, the Elder Storm, to defend the borders of Brynlach. Of course, such a beast could not be tamed, and while the Elder Storm could very easily protect the little people of Brynlach, it could kill them with a breath. Now, this nation, which was previously open and wandering, has become closed and dangerous. Very rarely does an outsider travel within the borders for fear of not being able to leave. Murigel travels along the border, bringing the storm with it. Outsiders, malicious and friendly alike, are frightened away by the storm; even so, most of its people live normal day-to-day lives. Still, they live them at the mercy of the tempest.
The Question of the Summoning
Calling Murigel into Kairos was certainly no easy feat, but no one knows exactly how it was done. The summoner was likely killed in the process, and no one else seems to know what happened. Knowledge of the ritual could have been passed over by a divine entity, or a tome may have already been in Brynlach, lying in wait. This raises a question, especially to those scholars in Celschön who see the eternal storm from their grand schools: is there other ancient knowledge that lies in Brynlach?

Government. Before the storm was summoned, there was very little cohesion between Brynlachi settlements. Now, ringed in as they are, the people are subject to the rule of the tempest. Most of the settlements have de facto leaders—the oldest, wisest, or strongest of the village—but Murigel is the power they all truly answer to.
Demographics. Historically, Brynlach has mostly been humans and firbolgs who welcomed outsiders to live among them. However, Murigel's existence is more than physical, and since its summoning, there have been more and more children born with genasi heritage.
Military and Defense. Murigel protects Brynlach as much as it locks the people into their land. Moving in and out of Brynlach is possible, but only if the storm allows it. If a military were to try to breach Brynlach's borders, it would be destroyed by a hurricane's wrath before ever touching its land.
Economy. Brynlach has very little external economy; however, the constant rains have created a new climate and generated thriving flora that didn't exist in Dorstovoya before its arrival. There is a little trade that goes on with Brynlach's people and those on the outside, but it is scarce, and it never extends to within Brynlach's borders.
