Malginess
The frontier town of Malginess is built on the ruins of a much older settlement. Hundreds of years ago, the old Malginess was a thriving Tiefling town whose people were firmly allied with the gnomes of the Malginelver’s Pact. However, the same orc horde that sacked the mines at Wave Echo Cave laid waste to the settlement, and Malginess was abandoned for centuries.
In the last three or four years, hardy settlers from the cities of Kachmorah and Barrath have begun the hard work of reclaiming the ruins of Malginess. A bustling frontier settlement has grown up on the site of the old town, and is home now to farmers, fur traders, and prospectors drawn by stories of gold and platinum in the foothills of the Sword Mountains. Unfortunately, more than a few bandits and brigands have settled here as well, taking advantage of the fact that the area has no local lord or authority to chase them off.

History
Malginess was originally a farming community and a member of Malginelver's Pact, giving them access to the Forge of Spells and the mining operations in Wave Echo Cave. However, orcs in search of food turned on the Tiefling settlements in the area, raiding them. Malginess was one of these settlements, and in 4360, it was overrun and then abandoned.
The town remained abandoned for centuries. After Volothamp Geddarm passed through the town and wrote about, the area experienced an influx of tourists and adventurers.
Beginning around 4895, settlers from Kachmorah and Barrath began resettling the ruins of Malginess, and the rebuilt town was well-established 4900.
