Scope
The area I want to focus on is Corethe in the Ellyndar States. Through necessity I wll be including a bit of the Ellyndar States but, geographically speaking, Corethe will be the name of the game. In particular, I would like enough of the history to make the place live, and traditions, professions, landmarks, etc. that will give Daezin a rich playground to get up to shenanigans in. Maybe, even a few major players (or minor ones if shopkeeper catches my attention) for her to bump into during her capers. By necessity, I also need to consider some of the diplomatics (a word? not sure but it is now) as some of her prophecies will be of military dangers.
Themes
The themes will be the same as for my world meta. However, I know one of the themes specific to Daezin is:
It is ok to have faith in things outside of yourself; it doesn't make you weak, it makes you stronger.
Moods
The mood of this section of my world will be wonder, humor, and mystery.
Goals
- Have fun! If I don't keep this at the top of my list, I will sink into an over-thinking, second-guessing spin and nothing else will happen.
- More fully realize this part of my world; basically get several things into play that will make pantsing Daezin's story easier.
- Get the basics down the five basics of this civilization as Ms. Pfenning taught them to me in high school: government (don't forget law enforcement!), religion, education, family, and trade.
- Create 2 to 3 historical figures that I can use quotes from to add flavor to articles and personalize the history and location.
Inspiration
There are several books where the home city is what most of the story revolves around. Those cities are both safe havens and the center of the plot. Somehow these cities become as important to the reader as they are to the character. Some books that have this kind of set up that come to mind are:
- the Nightrunner books by Lynn Flewelling
- the Valdemar books by Mercedes Lackey
- the Shadow books by Anne Logston
- The Tortall books by Tamora Pierce
