The Good Luck Dinner

8th of Aurai, Year 5203
It was supposed to be a myth, a legend. Everyone knows that the whole region of the Green Coast is steeped in bad luck. Not everyone believes that, at least not at first. Sure, they can farm a few really good years of rye or wheat, but then locusts come, or floods, or sometimes droughts. Large-scale farming is never profitable. Some families have small farms, vegetable gardens, really. But there has yet to be a profitable large-scale farm as far back as anyone can remember. Food comes in boom and bust cycles. Great crops for a few years, then nothing. This land is cursed, everyone knows it. It's not just the weather, the land is full of monsters. Green Coast's southern lands are inhabited by the usual zombies, wolves, dire bears, and who knows what else. The north is luckier, kinda. There the monsters are larger and easier to avoid. Except for the giant raids. Giants live in the mountains north of here. They lay waste to the land below. What is rare is normal fauna. You never see just a crow or just a raccoon or even some simple rats. No everything has to be dire or crazed or in a dangerous blood-thirsty flock.
  At least that's how it usually is. I got lucky, I found the rarest egg known to humanoidkind. Not sure what kind of critter lays it, but it's known as a Feywild Egg. And not just one, no. Five eggs. These speckled eggs appear to shift colors and have a strange sheen. There is no mistaking a Feywild Egg. It's said that if I can make these eggs into a scrumptious Feywild Omelet, I'll be gifted incredible luck. Even on the Cursed Coast. As the story goes, the last lad who ate a Feywild Omelet became a great adventurer and sorcerer, strong enough to leave the country and make a name for themselves elsewhere in the world.
  I wonder if the omelets actually give you powers, will they give me powers? Strength, cunning, magical ability? I could become a hero, a somebody. I wouldn't have to worry about what I'll do for food tomorrow, I'll have enough money and power to eat what I want! Think of the possibilities! There is enough for two omelets, who should I share with...
