Ekar Kor Shak
Ekar Kor Shak, as it's known to the half-orcs, is a large forested swamp east of the [small unnamed mountain range]. This region is dominated by vast stretches of uneven ground, sinking muck , and oozing mud. Most consider this land to be desolate and devoid of life, after all, who would choose to live in a swamp? However, the half-orcs that live here see through the exterior and understand the variety of life that thrives in this region. While some stretches of this area can be sparsely vegetated, much of it hosts a great variety of trees and other plants. Of these plants several are useful for medicinal purposes, some are harmful if eaten, and a few are deadly poisonous. If the flora can be considered diverse, the fauna is even more strange and varied. There are small insects of every shape and size, filling every niche in the environment. Birds and small mammals abound, but visitors rarely see them if they are too noisy. Some of the flora and fauna unique to this ecosystem can be used as magical reagents to create magic items that can't be found anywhere else in the world.
There are two main settlements in the region, Hel Konon and Gudjag Jutner. Kobolds live in Gudjag Jutner. They are wary of outsiders and have built there city to be a fortress from invaders. They mainly keep to themselves and are self-sufficient. Hel Konon is the largest half-orc settlement. It contains many races, but half-orcs are the most common.
Ekar Kor Shak is considered a religiously and historically significant area by the half-orcs. They believe that all life on the continent originated in the swamp. In the beginning of time, when the world was young, the first humanoids crawled from the muck to inhabit this world and all its current residents. Paired with an understanding of the natural processes in the swamp, half-orcs appreciate and defend the region with equal zeal.
Because of its position behind [small unnamed mountain range], this area receives an unusually high amount of rain. That rain has flowed through the very flat land of the region, creating a slowly flowing swamp. Since it is so far north , it has humid, mild summers and cold, dry winters. The flowing water and abundant vegetation create a shelter that is warmer than surrounding areas.
