Scribe-5 spent a week reading up on the history of Yin in regards to the legal system (Bastion: library + history crit):   The reason for the war starting was Lorladon. He exploited and experimented on people who could use magic, to a horrifying level. His estate borders Yin. when the neighboring Yin estates/lords found out they were horrified and convinced the empire to do something about it. (Border regions are very much in flux at all times, shifting borders etc. depending on the power shifts). The empire used this as an excuse to take over that region, causing Tritonia to declare war and attack back. Tritonia was not prepared for the Empire, until Gillian Clover took over from the mountains. There was chaos for about a year or two, including a lost prince.   The war starting was not that unpredictable, as they had very different views of magic: Strict ban vs. using magic at all costs (including slavery). Lord Lorladon was a subject of Tirtonia, but has now been apprehended by us and having been handed over to the Awarth, which may or may not be cooperating with the "Emperor".   This is a very difficult legal and political situation. Both kingdoms would probably want to deal with Lorladon in their own way. Lorladon has committed heinous crimes, and most view him as truly irredeemable. His involvement in the war was not necessarily common knowledge, especially in Tritonia.   Since Lorladon has already been stripped of his title, and passed it down to his son, he would not be viewed favourably if he ever stepped foot in Tritonia. The Dristwoods have their supporters in the previously ruling families, but who specifically is more difficult to know. Blackwater and Rock-something are likely candidates.
