24.07.2021 - Thunder - Dusksunder fight
General Summary
I was not able to play last session, so the others played without me. Niels started introducing Scribe-5 as a broken warforged that they might be able to fix
What Scribe-5 knows:
- Scribe-5 and her companion Miner-3 got captured/attacked by a dwarf in the ruins
- (The party has found Scribe-5, but not Miner-3)
- (They have taken the spellbook and the quill)
- Before getting captured Scribe-5 had travelled to Yin in pursuit of research of magic
- She was contracted by the Academy (The lady with the construct from the Triplett campaign) to g0 into the ruins to investigate a ritual, through a path the Academy had found at the outskirts of Hugo-Sha. It hinted to the Temple of Convergence
What Thunder knows from last session:
- We found a dead warforged with a hole in their chest. And a book with notes, with a few pages torn out. Because he shouldn't write down what was on those pages
- We plan to return to try to revive that warforged
- We found a magic(?) cave, with a building (Sun cathredral(?)). Entrance to the left(??), also possible to scale it.
- Hint of light at the top of the building
- Hardened lava at the side of it
- Found bodies huddled together in the building. Long dead
- They are most probably the First People, Avae ya lor
- They wanted to harness the power of the earth
- We're currently looking for someone on the Path of Restraint
- We talked to the dead spirit of one on the Path of Light
- They burned to death (most probably of lava, or chocked to death by ash)
- Their year was 205(??) after the year of the sun. About 1000 years ago
- They caused the calamity themselves
- They tried to combine and join the path, to gain power. But everyone had their own agendas, and things went wrong.
- The Path of Restraint are good people, but forsake them in their hour of need.
- We should seek them out in the temple.
- Inside the temple the dead bodies are lined up against the wall (?). Most probably done by someone who's been here after
- Something/someone is pressing on our thoughts
- It is warmer in the temple than outside
- Different bodies have different symbols of different paths
- We don't know the symbol of the path of restraint
- There is an upper level that we haven't explored yet
Thunder this session:
- The temple is massive, and has a lot of ancient bodies huddled around the walls
- The walls between the rooms have all fallen
- We start the session with a con save, that most of us fail horribly at
- Arnini notices that the air feels thick with magical energy
- C tries to reach out to the magical fog on the ground. The mental tug gets stronger, and she hears whispers
- Void: "In my experience, when you hear whispers it's best to ignore it."
- T notices lots of spiders crawl out of A's backpack
- The rest of us check our backpacks to make sure nothing moves in there. No findings.
- We go deeper into the temple
- There are small side passages to the left and right
- Coty casts Commune With Nature
- This temple reaches further than her 300ft reach, north.
- Flowing lava is nearby (the great forge in the vault had flowing lava )
- There are multiple powerful undead nearby
- T listens for movement. Nothing from the left and right, but movement from the upper level
- A voice from the right entrance speaks into Thunder's mind: "You should commune with the ancients in the right chamber". T is charmed, and tells the party that we should check out the runes leading into the right chamber
- As we start heading to the right, a voice souths out from the upper level. "The rest of you, stay!" -> Wis save
- Everyone except C fails the save and stays in the hall
- T can fight against the charm, but it starts to hurt if she does
- As she enters the chamber she feels a haze come over her mind, but not completely
- Old people sit in the chamber, frozen in time. Immortal but unable to move even an eyelid.
- A forest of icicles grows from the ceiling
- Lifelike statues stand on the sides
- The others hear something large rushing into the hall from the left passage
- C thinks these old people are probably the powerful undead she sensed
- She casts Sleetstorm around T to stop her from going any further
- The creature attacks in the hall
- It is an arachnid looking gargoyle with limbs that look like sharp stone
- With one turn it deal 85 dmg to void…
- C tries to light a torch on a T, but ends up just lighting it normally when T stops her. C tries to persuade T to stay away from the ancients, but fails. She ends up misty stepping to the others instead.
- T reaches out and touches the ancient old man in front of her. He's wearing armor under his robes. Highly decorated and ornate
- As she touches his breastplate, her mind is grabbed and held
- They are the Path of Hill (??)
- They have need T, and want her to awaken them. "They failed. Save us. Awaken us. Find the spawn. Perform the ritual. Try again" (?)
- "We must follow(?). We must protect"
- T asks if they know how to restore magic. He sends memories into her mind and transfers her mind into them, as if she was there. She sees him regal and important.
- T asks if there are any following the path of restraint here. "We are all here, in the Temple of Convergence"
- T comes out of the telepathic connection, and notices a dwarf beside C
- He is clad in black armour and waves at T
- "Hi. How did it go? Wanna play?"
- Void is down, A Cure Wound's him
- T fails a con save and the Cat Lord statue in her backpack becomes a tiny living cat of flesh and blood, sitting on her shoulder
- The dwarf looks at those in the right room (C and T) and says "Stay". T fails the wis save and is once again charmed…
- (We can see in foundry that the dwarf is Dusksunder, the traitor of the god vault)
- C realises that T is not coming to join the fight, and casts Watery Sphere on her to move her by force. T has a phobia of water, and is fighting it with all her might
- T will remember that Coty 'tried to drown her'
- T uncorks some chemicals in the water to make it murky enough to hide in, and deals lots of dmg to the gargoyle by throwing the ice dagger
- The dwarf conjures a hammer with black antlers growing out of it (Spiritual Weapon), to attack T (crit fail)
- A spectral being appears out of the hilt of Void's sword. Difficult to see any features, but definitely humanoid
- The watery sphere that C is concentrating on turns into a massive beach ball that is no longer filled with water.
- Golineth is being restrained by one of the corpses that has come to life (not attacked)
- C is still able to move the beach ball, so she drags T into the hall.
- When C ends the spell to release T, the beach ball fall to the ground, but does not disappear
- T uses her turn to cut her way out of the beach ball, glare daggers at Coty, then move away from C to hide
- The dwarf casts Silence on everyone around the Gargoyle
- Another round of failed con saves
- S lights his own clothes on fire from his searing smite
- T sees Cloud suddenly fall unconscious and be grabbed by one of the undead
- T shouts at C to heal Cloud. C casts Heal (!) at Cloud and make her return to consciousness. Trying to make up for messing up with the water sphere
- S believes some of the reason for what we are seeing is poisonous gas from the volcano. Part fumes part magic. It is basically magical poison
- Another round of failed con saves
- Cloud is still being grappled by undead
- T feels like her reflexes is slower than normal, as if her energy is being sapped (The Slow spell)
- The being is still following Void, but is becoming more corporeal, and less connected to Void's hilt
- C Cone of Cold's the Gargoyle (Then Marius has to leave)
- T runs over and crits the Gargoyle, splitting it in two with a single stab of her rapier
- S runs into the right chamber to look for Dusksunder, but he is not there
- Dusksunder appears in front of Void, but fails whatever he was trying to do
- "Come play with me. Stay with me. Wanna play?"
- Another round of terrible con saves (T crit fails)
- A's turret becomes a tent around Coty and Arnini.
- T's backpack turns into a sloth that is now hanging onto T. All her belongings that were inside the backpack falls onto the floor.
- S casts Turn Undead on the Dusksunder. He fails his save
- When Coty follows the turned Dusksunder, she hears that he went left, and sees a warforged tied to a chair.
- Another round of terrible con saves
- Undead bodies start to grab at T, but she is to agile to catch
- (Something else but I didn't hear it)
- The figure beside Void has only a single strand left connecting it to the hilt. It smiles.
- A runs up to check out the warforged
- S casts Locate Object on Dusksunder's robe
- It is very close to Void, in the room he is on his way into
- Dusksunder attempt to banish S and Arnini, both(?) fail their saves
- Void hits him, to break his concentration
- A checks out the warforged, it is probably not dead
- S finally puts out the fire from his clothes
- Dusksunder feels like the Allfather abandoned him by 'tricking' him into staying for ever in the god vault. Therefore he felt like he had to trick the others and escape
- Another round of terrible con saves (T crit fails again)
- The fog seems to thicken around T, as she sees hands and tendrils grabbing at her mind. She hears whispers again ("Awaken. You must awaken us" etc.)
- Arnini's inventions turn into small animals and scatter
- C casts Hold Person on Dusksunder
- Void teleports to him and cuts him badly
- Arnini casts Cure Wounds on the warforged
- S kills Dusksunder with sacred flame, after lecturing him about never betraying his friends. Hatred in his face as he watches Dusksunder burn alive.
- We save Cloud from the pile of bodies
- We check out the right chamber again
- The nearest ancient is a female elf wearing a small crown and black robes and a very thin veil over her face
- There are 5 slumbering ancients in the room
- One of the ancients have what looks like ornate shackles with silvery metal thread hanging from them.
- Cloud has seen something like this before in the tower
- After slight discussion, we decide T should talk to the shackled one
- He is a small half elf, with an ornamental chain
- "Welcome, welcome. Are you here to be shackled?". "Awaken us, we can set you free". "We are the path of restraint"
- T asks if there is a way to restore magic once restrained.
- They believe magic to be dangerous, and that it should be contained in the wrong hands. They mean any people who has been restrained have been done so correctly
- They do not believe that they can be wrong, but there is a hint of desperation to be awakened.
- T makes a deal with them: teach her how to restore Clouds magic, and she will set them free.
- She gives her word (but what is her word worth…)
- The ritual at the top can be used to amplify magic. You will need the symbol of all the paths for it to work. <-- Ritual to save Cloud
- Will have to sacrifice to complete the ritual. It will take magic to gain magic. Use magic to activate it, and then to guide it
- You will have to guide the magic and open up the mind again. Channel the flows so they flow freely
- They opposed a foolish project of too much magic
- They were not the reason the calamity was caused, but the ambition of the others
- They merely influenced. Did their purpose.
- They had a role in causing the calamity. A necessary role.
- They went to sleep during the calamity
- We will give you the rest of the info you want to know after you have awakened us
- While T is talking with the path of restraint, Void feels compelled to go talk to the female ancient in black
- She shows him visions of death and destruction. The volcano erupting and killing lots of people
- After the calamity passed, there was silence and some life
- Void takes psycic dmg as the ghostly humanoid from his sword grabs him by his shoulders and yanks him back
- Void tells Sylword what he saw
Plan: S has one channel divinity left, in case of undead possession. He does not think it is smart to awaken the people. Remember that the others only heard T's side of the conversation with the path of restraint. They don't know about the sacrifice needed. The spellbook from the first warforged had info about the ritual on the missing pages.
If the ritual to help cloud fails, S will try to Divine Intervention to make it succeed instead.
