15.06.2021 - Thunder - Sealing the vault

General Summary

  • (The door that was broken into was not the one i thought (as a player), but a door to a smaller room where the floor had caved in revealing a large cavern)
  • S is staring into space with his hand on the tomb
  • Those of us with high perception hear a tune slowly rising in volume
  • Thunder speaks with Golineth about Cloud
  • The first people (maybe) harnessed the power of the volcano
  • Golineth's theory is that their devices would be somewhere around the volcano
  • The first people might have what is needed to help Cloud
  • He is certain that they have what T seeks, but where is the question
  • S and A both speak dwarven, which might be of help
  • It seems the dialect is very old
  • He is uncertain why the sonnlinors are involved with the first people
  • They seem to have some purpose here, which we could find out
  • We can take a look at the tomb, or delve further
  • We should be on the lookout for symbolism like on the door, it fits what he's gathered on the first people
  • The path gathering and leading somewhere
  • Also volcanoes, lava and magic
  • Something spectacular
  • Amplification magic (Maybe look for symbols of godliness)
  • C tries to slap S pretty hard (for her with low strength) to get him to wake up
  • He doesn't react, so Arnini tries to slap him with a slapping invention
  • S turns to look down on A and wonders who he is. Then introduces themselves as Master Builder Ironbraid
  • "I have been awakened, that means there is work to be done"
  • A tries to slap her again, and she catches the hand
  • "Is this one of your craftmanships (creations?)?"
  • Then starts taking it apart
  • Puts it back together exactly as it was
  • She says that since he's a tinkerer, he will be useful. "Follow me"
  • The door further in is corroded, and in bad condition
  • Void tries pushing it open, and one side of it opens (the other seems stuck)
  • He walks through the door, not waiting for the rest of us
  • There is soot in the air, which is the only thing that is different from the other hallways
  • He reaches another set of doors, that also has magic like the other doors
  • Ironbraid has started walking around the room gathering tools
  • Asks A what the situation outside is, and if everything is ready
  • She builds and maintains, the guardians are her design
  • This is exactly why the guardians are important. To stop things from getting out
  • If the door was open and the guardians out of commission, it would be very bad
  • She goes ahead to the guardians, we follow
  • Their purpose was to protect the outside from what is inside, and to prevent any fools from getting in
  • Her guardians are capable of repairing themselves, but need to be on their stations to do so
  • There was a failsafe, that if anyone touched her tomb she would be able to get back
  • We finally admit that is was us who destroyed the guardians, and she wonders why we entered
  • T says it was to gain knowledge of the first ones
  • The gate is now open enough to squeeze through
  • T asks if Ironbraid knows where to gain knowledge about restoring magic
  • Recently after the apocalypse is when they started their work sealing this place
  • They volunteered to do it in order to protect the people who survived the apocalypse
  • The god emperor was after her time
  • Everything was covered in volcanic ash and destruction, nature had just started to grow again when they set to work
  • They gave up everything to do this
  • She recognizes the signet ring as the path of the horn
  • They were the ones who first approached them about it
  • It is fitting that the ring is what closed and opened the door
  • Once the guardians are up, we will have to convince them not to kill us
  • T and C is very stealthy, the others are terrible (metalworking is not the quietest…)
  • With reliable talent, the lowest roll T can do is:
  • 23 in stealth
  • 21 in perception
  • T scouts the hallway the monster is in, to make sure we're not ambushed
  • She doesn't hear anything yet
  • She is a bit too curious for her own good, and goes to take a look at the cave
  • C borrows S's ring from Ironbraid, to try to close the door
  • She goes to the outside and puts the ring in its place
  • The door is still lit up
  • It doesn't seem to move, but also doesn't open further
  • Nothing happened when she tries to turn the ring
  • Ironbraid explains to A that the guardians are metal beings with souls bound to them
  • Her brethren sacrificed their souls to stand guard
  • A is trying to find out how to soul bind, but doesn't get a good answer
  • Ironbraid is investigating what happened to the eyes
  • She had three spare, to replace the 4 that are gone
  • T is looking through the broken door
  • The door was broken from the inside and out, meaning the creature came from within
  • Inside the cave is the sound of running water and a howl in the distance, stopping abruptly
  • It's only about half of the floor in the room that is broken
  • The drop is about 90 degrees, but it's probably doable to climb down for someone with climbing abilities like T's claws
  • It's about 30-40 ft. Down
  • A keeps insisting that all the eyes were crushed in the battle
  • She knows he's lying, but doesn't press him to hard
  • All guardians are fixed to a degree where they can fix themselves. The one in ice might be a bit harder
  • Then she releases them by reading their pillars
  • They move back to their starting positions with heavy and loud footsteps
  • T hears another howl cut short, from within the cave, as a reaction to the loud sounds

 

  • She fuels some of them with fire magic while they're walking
  • They slowly sink into their pedestals, which light up
  • Then eventually rise up fully operational
  • Ironbraid deactivates the guardians one by one, then turn to the party
  • "What is your purpose here? Why did you open the gate?"
  • A repeats what T said, then says that our ultimate goal is to get Cloud's magic back
  • We're experts at getting into and then out of catastrophes
  • She thinks we're troublemakers
  • All that's left for her to do is close the gate, then she can give us back S
  • V is wondering if it is possible to teleport out of here
  • The gate cannot be opened from the inside
  • Their protections are created to keep in less intelligent creatures
  • So probably not to prevent teleportation
  • The lands behind the door held a whole civilization, it is vast
  • A says to close the entrance, and we will find another way out
  • Ironbraid will help us if we allow her to close the gate
  • T explores further into the hallways, comes across more doors, including one open one
  • There is a sarcophagus with a flame/hammer on it
  • It's relatively plain, except the shape
  • There is songsteel, but mostly rusty iron
  • When T walks past it, there's a slight hum
  • The room is vast and circular, with a glowing forge in the middle and low pillars, probably anvils, around it
  • It the far distance is more sarcophagus
  •  T notices that the forge and the anvils have volcano symbols inscribed on them, especially the forge
  • There's some tools by the anvils, but other than that it seems mostly cleared out
  • The second sarcophagus is slightly ajar, T goes to investigate
  • The holes in the floor have cogs and pipes that are completely quiet
  • As T peers inside the sarcophagus, she notices that there are tracks in the dust and the soot.
  • The lead away from the tomb around the chamber clockwise (Not all the way around, but she doesn't see where they lead yet)
  • The tomb seems to be empty, and there doesn't seem to be a hum from it
  • Even though parts of it is songsteel
  • Ironbraid tries to make sure we're absolutely sure it's ok to close us in here
  • A tries to convince her that all of us wants this, even though they're unable to ask T and S
  • "Be absolutely sure. We had a great argument when we first sealed the door"
  • When they persist, she uses S's shield to push against the door, and it starts closing
  • "It is done"
  • She does something to make the guardians relax more
  • Then she notices that 'this body' is slightly damaged, so she heals S
  • A wants to go get T before continuing forth
  • Ironbraid casts Sending: "We have closed and sealed the gate as requested. Your compatriots are awaiting your return. I will help you through when you arrive."
  • T responds: "There are howls from the cave. One sarcophagus open in the large chamber. Tracks leading north. Where should we rendezvous? You will lead us through where?"
  • Ironbraid goes grim when she hears about the empty tomb
  • "I guess our disagreements were worse than I thought. Something suspicious is going on. Someone is awake who shouldn't be."
  • Since T doesn't hear an answer, she continues on
  • The tracks lead to the door to the north. It is closed
  • The door moves when she pushes it slightly, so she pushes it enough to peek through
  • She hears footsteps on the other side
  • She hears the other's voices, and stops her sneak attack to go through the door to meet up with them
  • The party walks north to meet T from the other side
  • Coty notices both the tracks of Void and of someone else in the soot
  • But she thinks everyone sees them, so she doesn't point them out
  • They walk through the corridor without stealth
  • Ironbraid uses S's holy symbol to unlock the furthest door
  • T meets up with the others
  • The tracks lead into the room they've unlocked, but does not leave
  • There isn't supposed to be any ways to get out of the tombs
  • They made a pack to sacrifice themselves to protect
  • To do that they decided to stay. Not everyone was positive about that plan. But in the end it was decided. "It was Garmun Redmaul, our leader, that persuaded us." He was their arch priest and the leader of their mission
  • This room is the chapel to Moradin
  • Ironbraid created secret entrances into the ruins, in case they might need it. Only she is supposed to know about them, but is seems like that is not the case
  • The one who is not in a tomb is Voldrith Dusksunder, their master forger
  • T assists Coty to determine how fresh the tracks are. They aren't ancient, but they're not very recent. Maybe some years back.
  • Dusksunder is a capable combatant, and might have survived. He would probably have gone through the ruins to find a way out. He was interested in magic, maybe too interested
  • If we still want to go to the volcano, she has a path that leads towards the volcano
  • That part of the vault is ruined, it is bad news.
  • She wants to repair them, but considers her duty fulfilled enough to relinquish control back to S before then, and go back to her tomb to want for next time.
  • If we can seal off the living quarters we can at least buy time. "Maybe you can come back and find a more permanent solution"
  • She finds out that S has Stone Shape and Fabricate and can seal the room
  • T comes with to explore the last rooms
  • Ironbraid fabricates a 'cork' to block the door
  • The two remaining rooms are the incinerator and the room where the first entrance is.
  • The room to the left of the last two is a metal storage
  • Ironbraid gives T a password to the door
  • The storage contains metal and a small barrel of songsteel
  • A steals the barrel of songsteel, and other metal that is lightweight
  • The door of the last room is covered in runes and scribbles for both magical and superstitious protection
  • Now that Ironbraid feels that the vault is mostly safe, she is ready to relinquish control of Sylword
  • She says she could forge us a weapon to deal with the monster, but it would take time

 

Plan: Figure out what weapon Ironbraid can make us, and if it's worth the time it takes to forge. T wants to ask her about the relations between the sonnlinors and the first people. Also the Yömenie is happening soon, so we should hurry. It's about midnight now, it starts midday. T wants to talk to Malagnim, but now that this lead to helping Cloud is so promising, talking to him is less important.

If there is a choice where we have to leave or get locked inside, T will stay behind to find something to help Cloud
