11.03.2023 - Scribe-5 - Mageslayer
General Summary
(Marius is not here today)
- The meeting with Glannon continues
- Glannon offers us tea, and casually mentions that Sylword should do his duty if he wants to
- Both Void and Bucket warn the party not to drink the tea
- Void hastily excuses us, saying that we're busy and that a bathroom will do well
- Glannon summons a guard to find us a sturdy bathroom
- Glannon mentions that he "has an empire to run"
- The aasimar knight/guard (Arthur Montagu) seems to notice Glannon acting unusual, and bows stiffly before
- Montagu walks with us and states that we should talk
- Void warns us that Glannon seems to be influenced by Malagnim
- Sylword says that he can fix this, but needs heaps of diamond dust and another day to prepare
- Montagu instantly says "Done", and agrees to prepare it for us without anyone noticing
- Void sees that all his armour and weapons are magical, but doesn't see anything suspicious
- Montagu asks us for what we actually wanted, instead of the bathroom
- He agrees to provide an isolated prison cell, where only we can get in or out during the experiment
- We will meet him outside of Glannon's office tomorrow morning
- Scribes has to do an unprompted wis save, with no further comment...
- He leads us to the Path of Hill headquarters (basically police station)/barracks
- It seems more sturdy, defensible and reinforced than the rest of the Awarth city
- We're easily lead through, as we're with their leader
- We're on the third sublevel of the prison
- 5 guards are called to follow us. 2 are needed to open a wooden gate with a tree symbol like Rillifain
- He tells us that this should be isolated enough. There are some prisoners that they can move, but they will ensure that we are far enough away
- The lights in here are purple cloth-looking connected light, in a way that excludes shadow
- After walking for several minutes, he lays a hankerchief on one of the cloth-lights to create a doorway
- The interior of the new room is a perfect sphere with 15 ft. diameter, and made of a light blue opaque material (The doorway is at the bottom-halft)
- No sound escapes after the doorway is closed
- There is low level blocking magic to prevent ingoing or outgoing effects
- We check the room with varius magic
- Bucket senses an undead presence in another cell
- Scribes sets up our telepathic bond
- Void, helped by Sylword, detects abjuration from the walls, evocation/enchantments from the cloth-lights and aabjuration/illusion from the doorway
- Montagu will stay for a while outside the door, and will have a runner ready to warn people if we can't contain it inside
- We enter the cell, and Montagu locks us inside. He will open it when we contact him with sufficiently strong communication magic
- Sylword uses Warding Bond on Scribes (giving her one of the rings), and Death Ward
- Bucket prepares to cast Bless when Arnini is summoned
- Sylword will Silence a small part of the room and asks Bucket to restrain him
- Coty casts Druid Grove, with the Gust of Wind effect from the roof to push him downwards
- When everyone is ready, Scribes clicks the button to summon Arnini
- Scribes feels an arcane connection to the device
- A rippling bubble appears, growing until it suddenly starts shrinking and Scribes feels like it is running out of juice
- Scribes pumps a 3rd lvl spell into it, and it grows more before it starts shrinking again
- Coty picks up on a feeling that the spell is inverted and illfitting somehow. Like Scribes cobbled something together that doesn't normally exist
- Scribes gives it a 4th level slot, and it grows and starts to pull power from her against her will.
- Sylword thinks it needs 15 levels of spell slots
- Bucket puts his hand on Scribes shoulder and tries to transfer a 2nd level slot to the device
- Void gives one of his 5th lvl slots by asking 'the air' if it minds pitching in with some power, starting to argue that it will bring "that guy" back, and they might be able to get some magical equipment
- Coty misunderstands and agrees to do it, giving a 5th lvl slot
- A rift opens as the bubble grows into our space
- We try to back off, but there is not enough room
- As we enter the bubble, our skin tingles and hair rises
- The bubble stops about 20 cm from the wall
- Coty is touched by a gash, and her face goes blank for a second. She tells us that it felt cold, but in a different way than ice. Like there was nothing
- Arnini is pulled through a ripple like a cartoon character
- He looks a bit different, with some modifications
- Coty has a rippling effect flowing over her skin, like she is part of the bubble
- She is slowly being dragged towards the edge, where one of the ripples are
- Scribes uses the Wand of Puppetry to cast Dominate Person
- Bucket casts Bless
- Arnini fails the save
- Scribes orders him to return the people he has taken, and then return here
- He informs her that he will be sent back in 12 seconds, and can do so when he gets back
- Bucket and Sylword holds on to Coty, so she doesn't keep moving towards the edge of the bubble
- Scribes tries to analyse the bubble to let us go through as well (crits = 30!)
- We're in an area that is outside time, it lasts for a few seconds, but is a fraction of a second from the outside
- The fractures and gaps leads to somewhere not on the material plane
- It is the same coloration/feel as the rip in space Sylword and Void fell through
- There are three possible ways to go with Arnini:
- From the base, through the bowl. This would be the safest route, but would take longer
- Follow Arnini in the bubble. Will get us to the right place, but it is tight and might be difficult
- Leave through the ripples. Will get us to the border area where Sylword and Void were. Easy, but not sure where we will end up
- Scribes summarizes the first to options to the group
- Bucket and Sylword agrees to following the teleportation magic
- Scribes magically widen the space in the teleportation to fit the party as well
- Bucket and Sylword pull Coty towards the device, so she isn't stranded in the rift alone
- We're teleported to a garden
- Arnini runs off to follow Scribes command
- Energy currents are flowing through the air from pylons
- Sylword recognizes the street from Tidehaven, but some things are different (there are towers, and some buildings are missing walls, etc.)
- Bucket hears a flutter from above, someone jumps in the middle of us
- A massive female dragonborn with red and purple scales (Salanth) creates a crater where she lands, crumbling the nearby walls
- Scribes is the only one not pushed away by the impact
- Scribes somehow (crit) avoids the grapple
- Several individuals are watching from above (50 ft above), holding up a fist. Salanth seems angry about this
- The second grapple is harder to dodge however (she gained another +5, she is more intent on her goal because of those watching)
- Salanth tells Scribes: "Hold still. Real growth is through strength, not magic", before missing a kick to Void
- Another two punches deals 51 dmg to Scribes (halved by Warding bond)
- Arnini telepathically updates Scribes that
- Coty tries to freeze Salanth's muscles (slow), but nothing happens (she doesn't need to roll a save) and Salanth starts looking at Coty
- Void uses Hexblade's Curse and stabs her
- Scribes' shocking grasp has no effect, and causes Salanth to punch her in the throat and making it harder to concentrate
- Scribes manages to hold on to Dominate Person and Misty Steps away
- As Salanth chases her, Void hits with a Booming Blade. Salanth does not seem affected by the magic part of the attack
- Bucket notices that her tattooes are similar to the design on the anti-magic discs and the tower of forgiveness
- Sylword notices that they are diminishing with every spell they block
- Salanth manages to get to where Scribes is with her legendary action
- Bucket is running to help Scribes, and Sylword animates his knives to circumvent the magic immunity
- The walls are crumbling, causing Scribes to be pinned under rubble
- A brutal onslaugth from Salanth breaks Scribes concentration on Dominate Person, Sylword's concentration on Animate Objects. Sylword is knocked unconcious and Scribes is only saved by Death Ward
- Coty heals everyone with Mass Healing Word
- Salanth knocks Scribes out. Void sees the watchers change their signal, and Salanth appears taller than she is
- Bucket becomes frightened, but is immune because of his aura
- Arnini, now uncharmed, shouts at Salanth to handle this, while he sees to the inventions
- Coty is Salanth's next target
- Bucket manages to smite her, but does not manage to knock her down
- Sylword gets his knives back up, and Salanth is almost downed
- The walls keep crumbling, pummeling Sylword, Bucket and Scribes' unconcious body
- Salanth glances at the watchers. "It is time". She grapples Coty, punches her, pushes Bucket into a wall and dodges
- Coty uses her spear Ulutiu's Judgement to finish off Salanth
- Salanth's unconcious body is frozen in place, still holding Coty in a choke hold
- Void rushes over to Scribes casting Spare the Dying, giving Bucket enough time to Lay on Hands
Plan
Hack the device to send the people back (potentially look for the big mirror). Coty is held in a choke hold by a frozen statue. Scribes is buried under rubble Deal with Arnini, the watchers and Malagnim (easy peasy). Sylword wants to bring Salanth back, and befriend her or put her in prison. Sylword needs to be back within tomorrow, to cast Forbiddance and cure Glannon (Arthur Montagu provides the materials and will meet us by Glannon's office).
