04.02.2023 - Scribe-5 - Conspiracies of Truth

General Summary

(Asgeir is not here today)
  • We settle in for a long rest
    • Coty informs her god of what has happened. A circle of ice appears under and around her as she meditates.
    • She is given 1 point towards her piety thingy, which gives her the prepared spell Arctic Breath.
    • Bucket does an inspection of what the dwarves have done
      • Construction is in full swing, but still rough as it has just started
      • He doesn't find any sings of suspicious activity
    • Void studies the letter he found. He is staring intently and wide eyed at it.
    • Scribes and Sylword start looking into the possibility of modifying the Arnini Summoning Device
      • We try to connect the two functionalities
      • The device is connected to another device, and may not be directly connected to Arnini
      • We change the data being sent to Arnini so that it appears like normal, and doesn't show that we're trying to summon him
      • Scribes reverses the spell to summon a humanoid rather than teleport this one
      • We then try to set the creature to be summoned to be the wearer of the other device. It works because of the spoofing in the previous step
    • Bucket talks to Scribes about taking a warforged head
      • He explains that it is a trophy of Rillifain disguised as a warforged head
      • He brings it out, and it looks like a beautiful golden acorn to him
      • Scribes sees a warforged head almost identical to her own (crit fail arcana)
      • Bucket keeps talking about collecting these acorns, while Scribes (very low insight) understands it as him collecting body parts for his god
      • He says that it doesn't have to be a head, it could e.g. be a hand. And tells her that anyone could be a victim (mentioning Sylword as an example)
      • He also says that his two brothers are also looking for these acorns, and that he has to get to them first.
      • Scribes mentally confirms with Void that he is not magically altered or controlled
      • Void sees the head, but sees a flicker of an acorn in his periphery vision
      • Void tells Scribes that he sees something off about the head. Scribes is concerned that Void is starting to be affected by whatever is happening with Bucket
      • She asks him to keep an eye out for other things that suddenly seem different from what they are
    • Bucket goes into the city to communicate that he has found one of the acorns to The White City (?)
      • He uses a special leaf to summon a huge raven to carry his message. It disappears into feathers and leaves
      • On his way back he notices a high-pitched dragonfly sound following him
      • He waits around the corner to catch it off guard
      • He hears a crawling noise, and sees a mechanical eye with wings and thin legs peering past the corner
      • He bonks it with his Club of Useful Things (Bonking Device)
      • It crashes to the ground, trying to flee
      • Bucket wraps it in a bedroll (something in it's eye lights up)
      • He brings it back to Veilheart's entrance and gives it to a guard to hold while he goes to get the rest of the party
        • Scribes is suspicious that it is a trap, and remains in Veilhearth
        • The rest of the party is shown the droid, as Bucket takes it out of the blanket
        • Sylword suggests killing it and dissecting it
        • They have a philosophical debate about whether or not this counts as a person
        • There seems to be a crystal inside it
        • Bucket crunches it, making it screech as it slowly dies, before it explodes into a ball of fire
        • Sylword is able to extract the red crystal
        • He is also able to mend the part with the craftmans symbol, revealing it to be Arnini's crest
        • They get one of the guards to dispose of it
    • On their way back in again, Coty hears an unfamiliar soft male voice in her head
      • "Dear Coty Dristwood(?). We're not sure you got our letter. Do you have the location of Lady Dristward(?). Please respond promptly. At your service."
      • Coty responds: "I know where she is, but it's kind of complicated. And who are you?"
      • There is no answer
      • She asks Sylword if it is normal to send messages into your head if you don't respond to their letter
      • Sylword tells her that it might be if the person is rich, but they have to know her or know of her
    • We take a long rest
      • As Void is trying to fall asleep, he has a nagging feeling that there is something he has overlooked
      • He has a hard time sleeping
      • During the night he feels someone gently touching his chin and flicking his nose.
        • Scribes sees a feminine hand like the one that delivered the letter before. She tells Void
        • Void tells her about the letter, and shows it to her
        • We talk about what we know of The Prophecy
      • There is no one there when he startles away, but he realizes that he recognized a connection between Bucket and the head when looking at them earlier
      • He smelled a lavender/tea-like scent from Bucket and towards the head
      • Something is there that he is being prevented from seeing
  • We discuss our plans for capturing Arnini
    • We can ask Glannon for a secluded room to conduct an experiment
    • We'll not tell him what we need it for, since he has been acting strangely lately
    • Coty will then use Druid Grove to prevent Arnini from escaping and to keep others from walking in on us
    • Bucket says he can trap Arnini like he did with Lorladon. He is a hunter like his people... -.-
  • On our way to Glannon, we're swarmed by people. Bucket manages to disperse the crowd to let us through
  • We're allowed to skip the line, since we're The Heroes of the Awarth (Bucket and Scribes presumably work for the heroes)
  • We enter Glannon's office
    • Sylword signals to Void that something is off about the butterflies. Some of them are broken but still flying
    • Glannon is very positive today, and everything is perfect
    • Glannon seems confused why Sylword didn't leave immediately when he mentioned his work with his emperor
    • Void asks him if he is drunk
    • Scribes tries to request a secure and isolated room for a dangerous experiment
    • He cannot be convinced that we're not asking for a toilet with a lock and is strangely dismissive and dumb
    • Void Detects Magic and hears a subtle violin. The butterflies are twisted and put back together wrong
    • Some of them has been manipulated. There is enchantment magic on them
    • He notices a spreading enchantment on Glannon, brought by the butterflies
    • The music is growing louder and louder, reminding him of Malagnim's world, revenge, destruction, want, deen, desire, ambition and fixated goals

Plan

Scribes is wary of Bucket, since he is apparently hunting the bodyparts of her people for his god, and could turn on her at any moment if his armour tells him that parts of her is a similar "acorn" (his two brothers are apparently on similar missions).   We should maybe try to cleanse Glannon of Malagnim's corruption.   Set up a telepathic vc after the meeting with Glannon.   Then find a secluded and secure room to set our trap for Arnini. (Coty will use Druid Grove, Scribes will use the Wand of Puppetry)   Void wants to ask Bucket about "the thing"
