Giant Lynx
Threat Level: Low-Medium
Description
Nearly identical to a regular Lynx, the Giant Lynx differed not only in its increased height, standing 5ft at the shoulder, but in their new coloration. Believed to be a byproduct of their fey nature, it now ranges from blue to purple. Apart from this, no other physical differences are of note between the Giant Lynx and the common Lynx.Behavior
One of Jotunheims rare beauties, the Giant Lynx used to be a common sight within Jotunheim. And while many thought of them as pests, often killing cattle, others viewed them as a Jotunheim Staple. Unfortunately, today the Giant Lynx has become a much rarer sight, now limited to the Sunken Orrery, with scattered accounts across Jotunheim. This is in part due to overhunting for their uniquely beautiful pelts, and farmer retaliation.Similar to the Rendmaw, is believed to have descended from the Common Lynx who wandered into the Nowhere Forest, eventually adapting to their new environment. Unlike the Rendmaw, however, it appears that at one time the Giant Lynx left the Nowhere Forest and spread across Jotunheim, as it is now one of the few species of fae on Jotunheim who cannot be found within the Nowhere Forest. While it is not fully understood why this is the case, some researchers believe that it is due to the Rendmaw pushing them out, outcompeting them for food and resources.
Giant lynxes are crafty hunters, cooperating in small groups to trap prey and occasionally using a magical gift to scout likely hunting locations. They’re also smart enough to outwit many of the hunters who seek to trap them for their fur, and they’re fond of disabling any trappers’ snares they find in their territories.
It’s been told that Frost and cloud giants sometimes befriend giant lynxes and treat them as beloved pets. As long as the lynxes’ intelligence and independence are respected, the creatures are happy to share their divination magic with their giant companions.
Formerly believed to be extinct, it was discovered that the Frost Giants within the Sunken Orery kept them as pets, and would occasionally breed them. After a Giant Slayer ambassador met with a local Clan Leader, after a test of strength involving a mammoth and a spoon, it was agreed that this clan would begin releasing some of the Giant Lynx they raised to help restore their population.
